What? After what Lucasfilm said, it can't be the 'original' unchanged versions now can it? And if it isn't, why would they release the 1997 version, as stated in the website?

Hmmm, hard it is to see the future...

Now worries for me, Lucas will never get me to double dip! The guy's already rich enough, and besides, I need what money I have to keep our generous oil companies in business. I purchased the 4-disc set when it came out and as far as I'm concerned that's good enough to me for the next millennium.

No, the movies are the same as the ones in the current four-disc set.

The thing is, Lucas is still not done futzing with all six movies, so there's no way that fans of the series will stop buying the same things over and over again.

Actually, there is--just stop buying anything related to "Star Wars". (y)

Even with the lower msrp for the new set, you can buy the 4 disc set for $45 on amazon, $52 from Best Buy, and $50 from Circuit City. So you can buy the 4 disc set for the same price as retail on the newer 3 disc set. So you can buy the 4 disc set now for only a dollar or two more (at a real store) than the 3 disc set when it comes out. The only way I can see this as making sense, is if it is in fact the original version. Guess we shall wait for the complete details.

John, I guess that makes sense. Ugh, if that's true, I guess the marketing people saw it profitable enough to provide this version.

Forgive my repeating what I just said in "Reader Comments," but this three-disc set does not include the fourth disc of bonus materials. There is no indication at the Fox press site that these are the original versions, so it must be assumed that they are the same special edtions we got in the four-disc set.

The four-disc set lists at a suggested retail price of $69.00 and this new three-disc set at $49.00. Therefore, I can see no other reason but marketing for the new configuration. I guess Fox figures if you haven't bought the set by now, the lower price is your inducement.

I read somewhere that this is going to be a limited edition set. It sounds like this is the only reason it is being re-released. With no bonus disc I will be staying away from this one.

It's just a cheaper version of what's already out there, to get who hasn't bought it to do so. Limited Edition is just a tease for hardcore fans to make more money.
