I was going to post this gripe on the bruckheimer topic-post, but I thought it deserved attention. As I am sure most of you are aware, the amount of "unrated" editions is rising and coming to a hellish overflow. I believe I read recently on this site that Black Hawk Down is now getting its 4th release on DVD (original, Superbit, 3-Disc Edition, and new Director's Cut) and will most assuredly have some kind of immodest packaging that will list its unrated nature, as will Kingdom of Heaven (I have nothing against Ridley Scott by the way, its just a coincidence). I guess what I'd like to know is if anyone else is as outraged by the constant reissue tactics played by companies who see even the slightest opportunity to take advantage of we "collectors". I would suggest a petition of some sort, but I doubt it would make even the tiniest difference.
I'd also like to point out (in support of HD-DVD), that Sony has a habit of releasing and re-releasing DVDs, imagine what might happen if they controlled the entire market and the manipulation that could follow. At least Warner usually gives a choice from the start (Harry Potter is a good example, I have yet to see a re-issue of HP: The Sorcerer's Stone, and I doubt I will see one on DVD), and even their reissues kick freakin' ass (Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, All the President's Men, etc.).
Feel free to share your grievances here, be it with Sony, Warner, or the industry. I'm interested to know what people think.

hey, people keep buying and buying these things, which is why companies keep re-releasing the same titles over and over again instead of releasing titles that have yet to hit dvd.
p.s. at least "spider-man 2.5" was scrapped for the time being, lol.

Hey Eddie...do you want that new Black Hawk Down Extended Edition? :) This is going to make, what, the fourth iteration of BHD on DVD? That's completely insane.
I've never liked reissues of any kind, with the sole exception of movies that were trreated horribly the first time around. I double dipped on all the Star Trek movies and will double dip again when the SE of Brokeback Mountain invariably hits later this year.

jason,
i don't want "black hawk down: extended edition". however, people out there obviously do, and i have no problems with people who want to buy the same movies over and over again.

I don't get all the grumbling about unrated DVD's and studios double dipping. If you don't want to buy the DVD twice, then don't! Besides, the "unrated special features" are usualy bogus anyway. And if people truley hated double dipped/unrated releases then why do they sell so well? "psst...I love 'em"
Also in regards to the "unrated" debate, I think the most intersting revelation with the sales of "unrated" DVDs is the total lack of need for the MPAA. Why even have them rate anything above PG-13 or anything anymore? They are a visionless group of hacks fronting a operation full of bullies forced into existance by the catholic chuch back in the 30s'.
Sure they want to keep movies safe for kids, but if every child in America can get their hands on "Dukes of Hazzard" Unrated or "Wedding Crashers" Uncorked editions, then why can't I as an adult, see them in the theater unrated? Hell the possibility of some real T&A might have kept me awake through "Hazzard". Feh, who am I kidding, the late great Russ Meyer himself would have had a hard time kepping me "up" through that one.:)
