If any one is actually interested... the latest scoop from 20th Century Fox, is they're getting ready to unleash their new website for Alien Vs. Predator. For registered users like myself, we got a 12 hour sneak preview of the site, and all the content therein. I personally think it's an amazing upgrade. You get quite a few pictures from the movie, as well as conceptual art work. The new site is VERY well put together, with amazing flash player animations and audio, as well as quite a bit to read, and LOADS of eye candy! Those fellow AVP zealots out there will be very pleasantly surprised. Not much more information about the story line is given than has already been released, however it is a very comprehensive site. Judgeing from the pictures and concepts displayed, it looks to keep with past Alien movie standards of being a very dark film... (all the more to scare us with!). I highly recommend giving the new updated site a look in the next couple of days when it's implemented at - EXTERNAL LINK - .

Yeah, but given the characters histories, will this possibly be anything more than a mindless action/gore fest?

I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but I'm wondering if the movie could be anything more than a demo for one's A/V system...

Eddie makes a valid point. Don't get me wrong, I've always been a fan of the Alien series (at least the first two are the best) and Predator has always been an enjoyable seat-jumper, however, the second one was milk-toast. I always figured these two characters would come together since I remember seeing the head of an Alien creature on board the Predators space ship in "Predator II". Not to mention, there has been a computer game of Aliens vs. Predator for several years.

What it boils down to, is this film going to be no more than a bunch of hype with very little plot? I strongly believe in order for this film to succeed it will need to have a compelling story line. If it is just an action/gore fest, as Eddie put it, then I don't feel I'd want to waste my time. I think we've all learned some hard lessons from films like "Matrix: Revolutions", and as an audience, I feel we are becoming more cautious of what we pay to see. Just because the hype looks good, and even that is not saying much at this time, it doesn't equate to a decent movie experience.

I'm personally going to wait on the fence over this film. If it picks up rave-reviews on release date, then I'll spend the $6 to see it. If it is a critical flop. . .well, I guess I'll have a longer wait for rental.

Eddie,

You make some good points. As is the case in any good film, if it doesn't have a good storyline, it doesn't have anything. Being the Alien and Predator fan that I am, weather it's "a mindless action/gore fest" flick or not, I'll probably see it one way or another. It will take nothing short of being a flop of "Gigli" proportions for me to hate it... I know... I have a problem... is there such a thing as Sci-fi Anonymous meetings? lol.

Tim,

You forgot one! The AVP comic has been around long before the games were even a concept! And as we've seen in the past 15 or so years, comics of every kind have been finding their way to the silver screen. Most recently Hell Boy, I found laughable... but then, I never read the comics. You'll still find me at the opening though.
As you can tell I'm a HUGE fan of the Alien series as well. The first one scared the crap out of me at 6 years old when it was released. It wound up becoming a favorite film though. The second is my favorite of the series... gotta love the Marines kickin butt... for a while at least. The third was odd to say the least, and is probably my least favorite. Resurection, to me was the most disturbing of the films with the Alien Hybrids, and the thing getting sucked out of the ship through a silver dollar sized hole... creapy.

To get back on topic, Director Paul W.S. Anderson seems to be as big a fan of both series as anyone out there. That alone gives the movie hope. However, he hasn't directed that many moveis yet, and the one's he has done don't lend that much credence. His most recent was Resident Evil... and that was fairly cool, and creapy, as well as a few years back he directed the movie Event Horizon... another creapy and earie movie. However he's also got titles such as "Mortal Kombat", and "Soldier" under his belt. While Mortal Kombat, was ok for a teenie bopper film, Soldier (in my opinion) was EXTREMELY lame! So, all we can do is wait and see.

I agree that recently we've all had to learn the hard way with films that promised to be epic, but wound up making us dumber for having seen them. But how do you know? You can't trust the critics any more. They're either mindless drones repeating what everyone else is paid to say about the movie, or they're cynical sticks in the mud that hate almost everything! I guess the only choice is to see it for yourself, or ask a friend that has similar taste in movies.

All we can do is wait and see.

Paul W. S. Anderson is doing this one? Egads! His best film was "Mortal Kombat", so "AVP" is looking dicier by the day...

Well, we shouldn't condemn Paul W.S. Anderson just yet. After all he's just starting out (relatively) and EVERY director has a few or more flops under their belt. He's only got 7 films he's directed so far.

Well, at this point he'll either improve, or he'll just keep making bad movies.
