Okay, we can all finally send dolph lungren to the depths of movie hell. File the horrible 90's straight to video release of "the punisher" to the files containing highlander 2, superman 3/4, jaws 3/4, rocky 5, and many other bad, i repeat, BAD movies.
The new punisher movie is good-I am an avid reader of the comic, and this movie does the newest version of the comic book justice. Thomas Jane plays Frank Castle as I always pictured him. He kicks ass and doesn't ask any questions. If anything, I'd say that Travolta portrayed more of a repeat of his character from Swordfish, he was basically "a bad guy". I would have preferred to see the actual story arc from the comic, but it may have pushed the rating from R to NC-17.
All in all, I give "THE PUNISHER" 4/5 stars. :D

I read that the film received it's R rating for brutal violence as the movie does not contain any extreme swearing or nudity. Just how violent is this movie to go from PG-13 to R?

I really liked the movie. The creators didn't try fluffing this up for the kids at all. There was a SLIGHT 2 second shot of nudity and swearing is minimal. It really is due to the extreme violence (r rating).

It seemed like Travolta's swordfish character was just branded a new name for this movie. No problem there, he makes a good bad guy.

The torture scene with the lackey was hilarious. But it was the fight scene with the Russian that I would call classic. You just have to see that fight for yourself.

It is based off Garth Ennis's earlier works which may have played to its advantage.
