I just saw "King Arthur" at a test screening. It was the first time that the movie was shown to a public audience. There were even some studio suits from Mala Vista who were gauging audience reaction. As expected, the audience clapped and cheered during crowd-pleasing moments.
Me? I laughed out loud about five times during moments that were unintentionally funny. Sample dialogue:
Lancelot to Guinevere: "If you are what heaven has, then lead me to it."
The movie offers a constant barrage of tight framings, so no one could reasonably understand about a quarter of the fights. The script is awful, and there were plenty of acting and directing problems. Even Clive Owen (a good actor) sucked (I laughed when he got all bug-eyed for no reason).
This is a huge disappointment after how good "Troy" was.

Yeah, I saw the preview for this and I wasn't very impressed. I'm not a huge fan of director Antoine Fuqua. Training Day was overrated and Tears of the Sun was just average. Plus, right after the King Arthur trailer was the Troy trailer which made me completely forget the Arthur trailer.

Next up .... Alexander then... Kingdom of Heaven...
Anyways... this is sad to hear. I'm sure I will check it out first hand though. From the trailer I thought the "I won't let them touch you" line was pretty corny as well.
Speaking of Clive, what do you guys think about the rumos of him being the next Bond? I believe 2005's bond will be Brosnan's last.

The line in the movie is actually "I won't let them rape you." It was changed to "touch you" for the trailer to make it kosher for families.

I don't think the new Bond film would HAVE to be PG-13. DIe Another Day had riskier sex scenes, violence, etc. that ALMOST made it R-rated. Besides losing a piece of the audience, an R-rating could push the envelope and mkae Bond more edgy. But, a PG-13 Bond is more likely and Tarantino directing could make it so violent that it would be more like "Pulp Bond".
----TGP (I would see "Pulp Bond" regardless...)

Eddie,
So you're saying we might see "King Arthur" go to video faster than a Disney sequel?;) :D
I agree with everyone that Tarantino directing a Bond flick would have the potential to be AMAZING! However telling Tarantino to limit himself to a PG-13 rating, would probably be like Telling Mario Andretti to stay in 3rd gear!... it just wouldn't happen. I think if Quintin were to be told to keep it at PG-13, he'd probably give them the finger, and say I'm doing it my way, or it doesn't get done. :@

Josh,
With the exception of audio work and color timing, the print that was shown was basically the final cut.

I can understand remaking Casino Royale because, although it was a cool movie, the original was too much a slapstick spoof comedy than a real spy thriller like "From Russia With Love". Tarantino directing a Bond flick could be great, though...

Tarantino directing a Bond flick would be fun. Of course, he'd have to reign in his natural instincts to bring it in at PG-13. You know, too, that way back in the seventies, Steven Speilberg wanted to direct a Bond. He and Lucas did "Raiders" instead. Wonder if he's still interested.

Speaking of the next bond film, as anybody seen the interviews with Brosnan pleading to the studios to let Tarantino direct the next Bond movie. Tarantino has also said on many occasions that we wants to remake "Casion Royale."

It used to be further into the season before I started losing hope in the summer onslaught, but it seems Hollywood is putting out their mega-budget flops earlier and earlier.
It's tempting to just skip the multiplex anymore and just wait for DVD. This coming from someone who adores the whole "theater experience."
[sigh...] At least there's Spidey 2...(crossing fingers)

I don't think it helps the line seem more serious, or appropriate for Guenivere's character in any way, shape, or form. When I saw the first trailer (still available on quicktime.com) I thought this movie had potential to be VERY cool. With the new TV trailer, and Eddies comments. I'm not sure this movie would be worth seeing at the "Dollar Theaters"! However, the difference between the movie that they show at the "test screening" compared to the nation wide release can vary quite drastically based upon "test audience response". Maybe they'll learn from your screening Eddie?

You know I think QT would make a PG-13 Bond. If you listen to him in the interviews, he is very respectful of the franchise, and would not do anything to harm it. After watching Kill Bill, he prooved he can do tongue and cheek action.
