Well, it looks like a new Superman movie is finally getting on the fast track. Here's a link to some rumor info on it:
- EXTERNAL LINK -
From what I get out of this, I wish they'd just kick McG to the curb, hire Schumacher and just put us all out of our misery. At least then we'd know it was going to stink up front! :@
Sean (Speed Stick could work wonders on Joel Schumacher's career!...)

I think with McG on board, we know it will stink up front as well. I dont think there is any hope for this franchise, its been in developement far too long.

Quoted from the article
""A good portion of the screenplay is action, think of TOMB RAIDER. No story, all action. "

TWill,
Totally in agreement with you on the whole McG thing. I just meant he hasn't yet had a chance to screw up a superhero franchise. At least with Schumacher we already know to what depths he can sink an iconic character!
Ben,
Yeah! If you're going to make a movie with no story, only action, why screw up a universally known character?!? Just make one of your own up to destroy! Sheesh!
Sean (to codpiece, or not to codpiece? seems the only question left for them to answer on this one!...)

While a new Superman movie COULD be cool, I don't think it will be without a new director and a sweet cast. Personally, I can't wait for "Batman Begins"!!!!

I don't know if any of you have heard, but it's "rumored" that Biance Knowls is set to play the part of "Lois Lane". Being that I've found reference to this on quite a few sites, either the rumor is very wide spread, or there's some credence to it. Now granted, Biance is MUCH prettier than Margot Kidder (in my opinion) but I don't think Biance could pull it off. Many singers have successfully made the cross over to acting and vice versa, however, more often than not, it's a BAD idea! I haven't seen Biance act in any movie yet, so I can't say for sure that she'll be a bad actor, but we've seen this turn out horribly with past attempts by other 'wannabe' singer/actors. In my opinion, the Superman characters are so loved, and well known both in comic and silver screen form, that you shouldn't be experimenting with new actors going off of singing fame alone. I haven't heard who's to play Superman, but years and years ago I had heard that Nicholas Cage was to play the part. No offence to 'Nick' I love his acting and all, but he's nowhere the size (frame wise) nor does he have the charisma or character that Christopher Reeve did. In my mind Christopher Reeve will always be Superman. Granted that's probably because that's how I was introduced to Superman... none the less, it will always be that way for me. The age of the information on Nick Cage playing the part being so old... I'm sure that's changed. Unfortunately there's no info. on IMDB other than the film has "been announced" for 2006.

Ugh...
it's sad that movies (and ideas for movies) that are so important to so many people, are placed in the befuddled hands of executives suffering from cranial rectal defilade!! The formula "used to be" give them what they want, and the money will roll in. Now, with the leaps and bounds that computer generated animation or "CG" has taken, movie makers are taking the "money making shots" that were Hollywood explosions of the 60's 70's and early 80's, to an all time high with movies like "The Matrix", "Star Wars", or any number of the recently released movies, instead of concentrating on the story. Not that a lot of these movies aren't still great. But when you start making movies with politically, or monitarily motivated reasons (versus trying to create a great story) things will inevitably fall apart, and wind up as excrement at the bottom of an ocean of bad movies. You know... that layer thats just below sharks and lawyers. ;)

I dont know how many Kevin Smith fans are in here, but on his "Evening with Kevin. Smith" DVD, there's a great story about how he was was hired to write "Superman Lives," which was the Tim Burton/Nic Cage project. The producer (forget his name) kept pressuring him to write in a gigantic mechinical spider, Smith refused. The producer then got to put his spider in "Wild Wild West." Anyway, if that's the movie they are trying to make this movie is doomed to fail. They need a director with a distinct style and proven track record making fantasy or action films (Ridley Scott comes to mind OR Edward Zwick, imagine even Paul Verhoeven). Not to long ago, they had Bret Ratner attached. He hasn't made any bad films per se, but they are unoriginal and lack any real soul. He makes processed hollywood films. It seems like they are just looking for a director they can push around, wont rock the boat, and can handle a large budget, so they can turn a quick franchise.

Well you'll never know how McG does with the franchise (eg Raimi with Spidey)
BUT
I have to say I've been most irked by McGs directorial efforts so far. Charlie's Angels was laughably bad. Full Throttle was sinfully bad.

I'm glad Cage backed out. I think he'll make a much better Ghost Rider than Superman.
