Wow, I was pleasantly surprised how fun this movie was. I applaud Vin for what he's done with the franchise (from what I've heard he was very involved with getting this movie made and story rewrites). He has taken a somewhat small scoped sci-fi horror movie (Pitch Black) and turned it into a single chapter in the life of Riddick. The universe is now revealed and there is quite a bit of planet hopping. Things are now on a much more grand scale and turned from sci fi horror to sci fi adventure.

The plot is kind of bumpy but Vin's character Riddick makes one helluva anti-hero badass. I love the eyes. I heard in Pitch Black that he wore the goggles more so than planned because the contacts were really irritating his eyes. But in Riddick, we see quite a bit of his pearly whites.

And my new favorite game now that LOTR has finished ... "Spot the LOTR cast member". Karl Urban (Eomer in LOTR) plays one of the main villains.

I still get a kick out of that Pitch Black scene...

Johns: How's it look?
Riddick: Looks clear.
***** Steps forward, and a creature jumps at them.
Johns: You said it was clear!
Riddick: I said it *looked* clear.
Johns: Well, how does it look now?
Riddick: Looks clear.

Should be enjoyable to sci-fi goers.

I hoped this movie was going to be good. I loved "Pitch Black", and at the time that I saw it, I remember commenting that Vin had the potential to be the next Schwartzenegger. I hope I enjoy it as much as you did Depression. I plan on seeing it Monday.

I'm still jazzed to see this one. I went into Pitch Black not expecting anything and came out having been pleasantly surprised. The Riddick character is a boon to Vin's career if he keeps it on track; possibly even the staple that he's remembered by similar to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name.

Hopefully it won't disappoint too badly as I feel it has a lot of commercial potential.

Sean (...every report card I got: Sean shows a lot of potential, but he needs to apply himself...)

I just saw COR today. I think it was EXCELLENT! This movie is so vastly different than the original, that they can't be compared. I loved "Pitch Black" and thought it was an excellent film as well. In COR however, Riddick goes places, and does things that you'd never have thought of in Pitch Black. Amazing visuals, and art work, the CG was very well done, the acting was good, and story and plot flowed. I will wind up buying this movie. The only complaints I had, was with a couple of lines in the movie that were really cheesey, but they're forgivable.

I think David Twohy is an underrated director. The Arrival caught me by surprise. I wasn't expecting that taut sci-fi thriller from that low-budget movie. Then a few years later, I was pleasantly surprised with Pitch Black yet again! I haven't watched COR, but I hope Twohy maintains that touch of his that makes his movies go along the path less trodden which kinda makes them special.

If you like Twohy, check out Below. It's basically a haunted house story set on a submarine in WWII. It's gotten middling reviews, but I really enjoyed it, probably because I love sub movies. Anyhoo...it's worth the rental at least.

Sean (...let's hope his career doesn't sink like COR's take this last weekend!...)

There is only one sub movie... One sub movie to rule them all!
DAS BOOT!

Sorry, I just love this movie and I had to put my 2 cents in. Carry on!
