...but we did join WWII in September of 1939, long before the US did, with more than a million soldiers, which when considering the population of Canada, is quite a considerable number. Canada was definitely a considerable factor in turning the tide against the Germans. Much is made of the taking of Omaha Beach in Normandy by the US (as shown in Saving Private Ryan) but keep in mind that 5 beaches had to be taken that day for the Normandy invasion to be successful. The Canadians were responsible for taking Juno Beach

Kilgore,
I'm curious. You seem to be such an expert on American history, policy, and foreign affairs... what exactly has your homeland of Candada's government done for the world in terms of contribution to any major decisions or political contribution towards peace, extermination of terrorism, or anything else that could potentially help this world we all live in?

Kilgore,
>>>We have never invaded anybody.<<<
>>>...but we did join WWII in September of 1939, long before the US did, with more than a million soldiers,.....The Canadians were responsible for taking Juno Beach<<<
Those two statements definately sound inconsistent to me.
>>>could you now respond to the issues presented in the movie?<<<
If you spent over two hours on this movie and $8?, how about a quick 5 minute trip over here:
- EXTERNAL LINK -
EXAMPLE:
…Michael Moore shows a clip of CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin saying that if ballots had been recounted in Florida after the 2000 presidential vote, “under every scenario Gore won the election.”
What Moore doesn’t show is that a six-month study in 2001 by news organizations including The New York Times, the Washington Post and CNN found just the opposite. Even if the Supreme Court had not stopped a statewide recount, or if a more limited recount of four heavily Democratic counties had taken place, Bush still would have won Florida and the election.

Bravo Tim! Speak your mind! Glad to hear it!
How cool would that be to have our world leaders settle their own disputes in a ring?! It would sure change who we voted into office! In this situation Arnold Schwartzenegger would have a GOOD chance of getting into office! We could have a true WWF "Smack down"! Could you just hear Michael Buffer announcing... "IN THE RED CORNER, FROM THE OIL RICH COUNTRY OF IRAQ... SADAAAAAAMMM HUSEIIIIIIIIIIN!!! AND IN THE BLUE CORNER... FROM THE OIL RICH STATE OF TEXAS, GEOOOOOOORGE "WMD" BUUUUUUUSH!!!... LLLLLET'S GET READY TO RUMBLLLLE!!" Talk about a "Running Man" similarity (no pun intended).
That REALLY sucks about your dad. The whole health care and Social Security situations here in the US are a complete joke, and are other issues entirely. This thread could go on forever if we get into those.
Any successful country depends (almost entirely) on the success of their "middle class". The vast majority of a successful society usually wind up being middle class. However isn't it funny that no matter the situation, weather it's a successful society, or a chaotic one, it's always the richest or strongest that govern. We may not have the best solution here in the US, but we have the best chance at making things change for the better of the whole.
I sympathise with your voting concerns Tim. It does sometimes feel like it does no good. But if we give up on voting, we give "them" the power with no resistance. If elections are illegally won, and our government is starting to become majority corrupt, it will be time that "we the people" take up arms and ENFORCE the 2nd Amendment!! If that does ever happen, the US will see a second Civil war. That may sound extreme to you, but it's one reason the 2nd amendment was put in place in the beginning of the constitution. We escaped the tyrannical rule of England, and the rest of Europe in oppression of the middle and lower classes, so that we could create a country where "all men are created equal" and tyranny would not reign!
I'm glad to see you get emotionally involved Tim! In fact I think it's been far too long since we've had a president that was emotionally involved, and was a strong leader! I miss the days of Reagan on the podium telling these little terrorist oranizations that "we're not going to tollerate these kinds of acts from outlaw states". Or when Carter was president... the man had passion! Now it's as if it's taboo for our Presidents to show emotion! One of the biggest reasons Reagan was so loved is that he was the "people's president". He reflected the countrie's concerns, and emotion.
You're right about the freedom of speach thing, however you're also a little wrong. This country is about personal freedom as long as it doesn't infringe on anothers freedom. Freedom also doesn't mean no consequences. Yeah, you might have the right to give a cop "the bird", but you may have to pay the consequences that if he finds that threatening, you may go to jail for provocation of a police officer. What it really comes down to is to be in a civilized society, there have to be laws that have consequences, and they have to be adhered to. Case in point... a few years back some Anti-abortion activists decided to stage a campaigne in my neighborhood. They had these HUGE picket signs that had huge pictures of dismembered baby fetus'. EXTREMELY graphic, and probably the most sickening sight I've ever witnessed. The activists were trying to claim their signs were a "freedom of speach" issue, and obviously they were tyring to make a disturbing point... albeit the wrong way. The flip side of that is that they took the right away from everyone in my neighborhood NOT to see graphic images like that, not to mention having all of the little children see those images and have night mares! So the point is, yes, we have freedom of speach, however, that doesn't mean you can say what you want when you want, and not have any consequences for it. If we lived in a society where anyone could say or do what they want when they wanted to, that would be the grotesque and quite literal definition of chaos.
I agree with you that "some" or "a lot" of the wealthy people in this country are a LARGE problem for the rest of us. They're lobbying for themselves and other rich people instead of the whole of the country. Honestly I think "campaigne contributions" should be CLOSELY monitored! I'm sure that bribery is more common in governments around the world (let alone our own) than the citizens would like to believe. At some point it will come to a head, and the people will demand it be delt with, or as I mentioned, a Civil war could ensue.
What you have to realize is that you have to either try to continue on with "the good fight", and keep hope alive that truth and justice will prevail, or sit back and wait for the end of the world. Personally, I've never been one to say "die". Be like Braveheart... cry "FREEEEEDOOOOOME"!!! lol.

I don’t take offense to anyone here, and that’s what makes freedom of speech beautiful. Everyone has his or her own opinion, and in my opinion, the world is run by the rich and wealthy.
A few years ago, I sat with a black man, and we drank several beers together. After much discussion, we realized that there really is not a racist problem in the country, or the world, but a problem of the wealthy making us believe there is a problem! The media brainwashes us all into believing there is always something for us to fight about, when the real truth is, that’s what the rich want us to do. As long as we focus our minds from the real problems in the world, they are able to trick us into believing that terrorism or drugs are the real threat.
I say no to this! In my mind, the wealthy are the real threat! They skew their way through life making us believe we have some tangible commitment to some cause that all of us should be responsible to (all countries included). In my opinion, if they have a problem with a leader of another country, then stick them in a boxing-ring and fight it out. Why burden families and innocent lives for their well being? They make us all believe that it’s important to all of us when it’s really an issue between a few men.
To me it’s insane how this world works. We all focus on our counties and think we are all better than the next guy, when in reality, we are all brainwashed into believing that fact! When 9/11 happened, I was just like any other American who said “Kill Bin Laden!”, however, we went after Sadam? So, tell me, how was not some higher aspect of politics involved? Wake up people!!! Lots of oil in Iraq, no?
The thing that kills me through all of this is the middle class, and poor, out number the wealthy in astronomical numbers, yet we all choose to sit here and think our leaders are gods. We all back them because they represent our country when they do little of the sort. They represent dollars, their wealthy friends, and their money soaked buddies and all of us buy into their crap because the media makes us believe it’s true! We all think that “it’s the evening news, they wouldn’t lie to us. . .” Wake the F up folks!
Maybe I’m being too radical, and maybe I’m being too out spoken, but for god’s sake maybe someone needs to! I live in a country that is supposed to be the wealthiest in the world, but yet my father is turned away from a hospital that does not take Medicare as a health insurance provider! What the F is that?!?!?! Medicare is Government health insurance for the retired and an Fn hospital would not take him! So, you think we really don’t have other BIG issues to deal with in America.
I live in a country that just tells me to vote (as if that will change things). Voting is an absolute joke . . . don’t believe me, then look at the last presidential election! Voting will not change jack shit until we are all able to get rid of the college electoral election system! Oh, for all you “other” country people, the college electoral actually decide on “who” in this country gets elected into office. Fact is, more people voted for Gore last election, but the “college electoral” voted for Bush . . . and guess what? We got Mr. Psycho in the White House . . . go figure.
Now, as far as Moore goes . . . good for him! In the sixties, or seventies, we would look back at someone as him as a hero. I find him as someone who stood up against the power of the sick wealthy of the world. Someone who was not afraid to tell his opinion, and be ridiculed by peoples opinions. We live in a cenacle world, of where, we feel we can tear him apart, but the fact is, he’s no worse than any of the rest of us in the world. He has an opinion that he freely chooses to give to the rest of us. And, truly, what is the problem with this?
Yeah, America the free, where we have the freedom of speech but watch what you say!
