Is unfortunately Orlando Bloom.
I have nothing against him but he just isn't Bond material imo. Clive Owen on the other hand had it all.

Oh right, wasn't he the kid who shot him in the end? Anyway, havent seen Bend it Like Beckham, but still he is quite young.

I don't hate Hugh Jackman. I just don't think that he looks like a Bond. As "Kate & Leopold" was almost a bad movie, I don't think that he's found his footing as a romantic lead yet, either.
Catch Jonathan Rhys-Myers in "Michael Collins", "Bend It Like Beckham", and "Gormenghast". It's a whole different ballgame from "Titus" (small role) and "Velvet Goldmine" (bad movie).

Johnathan Rhys-Myers hasnt impressed me that much in the films I have seen him: "Titus" and "Velvet Goldmine." I think he's too scrawny to play Bond. Clive Owen is perfect.

Yes Tim, I noticed some resemblance between Jackman and Eastwood too :)

I think Hugh Jackman could pull off a pretty decent "Dirty Harry" if you ask me. ;)

I'm now confused. Upon further reading Brosnan has recently quit the role for the film that was going to be released in 2005. So is Bloom a replacement for THE bond, or is he just going to be doing this younger chronicles?

You hate Jackman because he has a weak jaw? I can't say I've ever heard that one before... I think Jackman rules, even in Van Helsing, and I can imagine him being the handsome gentlemen (Kate and Leopold) as well as a wisecracking asskicker (X-Men 1 and 2), and he can be the charming, debonair ladies' man (Van Helsing). What more could you want from a Bond?

I'd go with either Clive Owen or the relatively-unknown Jonathan Rhys-Myers. Bond needs a hard edge. Otherwise, he's just a fop (see George Lazenby in the otherwise decent "OHMSS").
I think that Hugh Jackman has a weak jaw, so he doesn't look the part. I was bothered by his weak jaw in "Van Helsing", too. Wolverine's facial hair hides his weak jaw, so I've liked him only in the "X-Men" series.
Eric Bana looks like a nice guy, so he lacks the edge that I think that Bond should have. I dug the guy as Hector in "Troy" a lot, and I think that he certainly deserves to be the lead character in more movies--just not Bond.

Oy... that is depressing Depression... but at least it wasn't "Hugh Grant"... they were considering Grant (among others) for the roll as well. I like Bloom, but I don't think I'd buy him in the roll of "Bond".

One thing--the news reports all mention Miramax Pictures. First of all, it's Miramax Films, not Miramax Pictures. Second of all, MGM, UA, Danjaq, and Eon are the companies associated with Bond, not Miramax.
Also, putting James Bond in college sounds like that cartoon series "James Bond Jr.".
This isn't out-and-out fishy, but there are a lot of things that give one pause...

Is this confirmed? I mean, Orlando Bloom is cool and all but he is not Bond. I was hoping for Hugh Jackman or someone like him. I thought Brosnan did a GREAT job in the role, just as good as Roger Moore and only slightly below Connery. And he's going to be in college, like a prequel? Hmmm... This doesn't sound good. Maybe the franchise is finally going to end...? Bond is in lots of competition right now, because other franchises are beginning to take a toll on Bond. Look at the Bourne series. Bond would definetly have to be up for the challenge, even though I liked all the recent Bonds.

There's a lot of stuff online about this. I read the article about Bloom, but I also read a couple days ago on AintItCool that Bana was the next MGM Bond.

I think Hugh Jackman can pull off Bond, well at least more than Orlando Bloom ever could.

For the record, and because my review of it was quite a while ago, I thought "Kate & Leopold" was one of the best, most unique, romantic comedies of recent years. I also thought Hugh Jackman was excellent in it, and I thought at the time he might make a good Bond.
Since all the Bonds have been physically quite different, it probably wouldn't disturb audiences what the next Bond looked like, so long as he was the right age and reasonably handsome. Remember, Connery was rugged, manly, and virile; Lazenby was a department-store mannequin; Moore was pretty and a bit prissy; Dalton had a feral look; and Brosnan is rather on the thin, willowy side. Jackman has a prominent nose and weak chin, to be sure. But I could live with that.

John,
But look at the guy; do you not see a resemblance to Eastwood? I’ve been freaking out about this for the last couple of years. I know movie-buff friends of mine who think he’d make the best replacement for remakes of Eastwood films.
I’m sorry, but I don’t see him as a Bond. However, as a Dirty Harry I’d bet all the tea in China.
Tim. ;)

Hmmm. Hadn't thought about it. Jackman as Dirty Harry? An Australian. How about Dirty Sydney?
Anyway, I also like Jeremy Northam as a potential Bond, but that ain't gonna happen, either. Oh, well....
