One thing--the news reports all mention Miramax Pictures. First of all, it's Miramax Films, not Miramax Pictures. Second of all, MGM, UA, Danjaq, and Eon are the companies associated with Bond, not Miramax.
Also, putting James Bond in college sounds like that cartoon series "James Bond Jr.".
This isn't out-and-out fishy, but there are a lot of things that give one pause...

Is this confirmed? I mean, Orlando Bloom is cool and all but he is not Bond. I was hoping for Hugh Jackman or someone like him. I thought Brosnan did a GREAT job in the role, just as good as Roger Moore and only slightly below Connery. And he's going to be in college, like a prequel? Hmmm... This doesn't sound good. Maybe the franchise is finally going to end...? Bond is in lots of competition right now, because other franchises are beginning to take a toll on Bond. Look at the Bourne series. Bond would definetly have to be up for the challenge, even though I liked all the recent Bonds.

There's a lot of stuff online about this. I read the article about Bloom, but I also read a couple days ago on AintItCool that Bana was the next MGM Bond.

I think Hugh Jackman can pull off Bond, well at least more than Orlando Bloom ever could.

Apparently Eric Bana has the job.

For the record, and because my review of it was quite a while ago, I thought "Kate & Leopold" was one of the best, most unique, romantic comedies of recent years. I also thought Hugh Jackman was excellent in it, and I thought at the time he might make a good Bond.
Since all the Bonds have been physically quite different, it probably wouldn't disturb audiences what the next Bond looked like, so long as he was the right age and reasonably handsome. Remember, Connery was rugged, manly, and virile; Lazenby was a department-store mannequin; Moore was pretty and a bit prissy; Dalton had a feral look; and Brosnan is rather on the thin, willowy side. Jackman has a prominent nose and weak chin, to be sure. But I could live with that.

John,
But look at the guy; do you not see a resemblance to Eastwood? I’ve been freaking out about this for the last couple of years. I know movie-buff friends of mine who think he’d make the best replacement for remakes of Eastwood films.
I’m sorry, but I don’t see him as a Bond. However, as a Dirty Harry I’d bet all the tea in China.
Tim. ;)

Hmmm. Hadn't thought about it. Jackman as Dirty Harry? An Australian. How about Dirty Sydney?
Anyway, I also like Jeremy Northam as a potential Bond, but that ain't gonna happen, either. Oh, well....
