the good ones are extremely expensive, but if you can afford the cost, then get one with at least an 8-inch screen.
i got an initial-brand portable dvd player (4-inch screen) for $130 on the friday after thanksgiving day here in the u.s. look in sunday ads for deals if you can.

Look at battery type/life too. Preferably get something with a rechargable battery, or AAs so you can get rechargable ones. And getting something that has a 2-hour battery life isn't going to help anyone.

$130 is an incredible deal. The cheapest ones here in Eurpe go for 550-600 US Dollars. I strated believing I will never be able to afford one. :.(

well, initial is a brand that's probably based in china (like apex). normally, i wouldn't recommend buying stuff from china-based companies (different from stuff made in china by companies NOT based in china, like sony). however, as you wrote, $130 for a portable dvd player is amazing. :)
