I saw an article about digital projectors a few months ago.
The short summary is that they have improved and cost $1,000+?. The screen costs you either another grand, or you can make one for around $200.
The picture may be 100 inches, and you get the theatre style of having the light over your heads.
Has anyone seen one? Are they high quality? Is the price I quoted right.
Is it worth it?

The best thing to do is head over to a forum where they drool over projectors, because you'll get hundreds of opinions on every different model out there. A good projector set in a light-controlled room (i.e. not your living room with the windows open) is that it's as good as a Theater. I've heard great things about the Infocus X1 as a sub-grand projector. Couple that with a screen you can build yourself, a decent theater room... you could do alright.

my dad has a projector and they rock. Bigger then any tv screen and cost much less then all the latest high definition flat screen overpriced confusion going on with televisions lately.
Heres a good link for info

I recommend DLP projectors, i like them more then LCD. You can get a pretty good one for about a grand now if you buy something like infocus

its possible but i wouldnt do it. You can get a screen to shoot on for like 100 bucks and it makes it look much better.

Eddie,
I'm not an expert or anything, but I have a friend that has a projector and made his own screen. The problem with shooting onto a wall, is that while yes, you'll see the picture, it won't be a good picture. For one, you'd have to contend with the many shades of white paint that exist (e.g. "eggshell" etc.) that can distort the colors, but more than that, true movie screens are made of a reflective fiber that gives you an incredible picture. You can buy similar material at most "cloth stores" but that's where the majority of your expense in building your own screen comes in. Still... $200 vs. $1,000... not bad savings!
