Is there any way to connect a dvd player to a computer monitor, and play dvds on there? :@ (without any PC in between.)

prolly not, though i wonder if it's possible with dvi-capable players and monitors?
at any rate, most lcd and plasma tvs are being built to be used as computer monitors, so the convergence of work and play is already here. :)
