Hi again,
Once again thanks for the useful advice on the prior post.
I had posted just below this post in regards to my DVD player freezing up after about 1 and a half hours of play time. I've since noticed that this only occurs when watching a movie (i.e a real DVD). If I put in a Karaoke DVD (VCD), it plays fine and never freezes. We even hookup the microphone into the DVD player and have sing-a-longs with no problems.
I was thinking of keeping my current player soley for Karaoke purposes, to be used in VCD mode only and purchasing a separate DVD player for watching movies. Does anyone think the problem may eventually spread and affect the VCD functionality?
Any help provided is very much appreciated.
Thanks ... Jesse

If my guess that your player is freezing up at the layer change, it's understandable that the machine would still be able to play Video Compact Discs, which, I believe, are single layered like most other CDs.

Many thanks for the advice, John. I will keep my current player for karaoke purposes and purchase a separate DVD only player to watch movies. This will give me a greater selection to choose from not needing to worry about the VCD functionality.
Once again thanks for the help, John.

Most recent DVD players will play VCD's anyway but the Karaoke function is only in a set few. Keep the DVD player as a karaoke and then get your hands on a cheapo dvd player. I find that the cheaper the dvd player the more the functions. Don't go for the total bottom of the barrel but don't spend crazy cash either. My sony one was the second bottom of the range sony and i sware it would play a chocolate biscuit if i tried it lol pay an extra few bob to get it multi regional too so that you can play all regions for the dvd's that aren't out in your country.
