Worked fine for several months and just started acting up. Started playing real choppy like the DVD was scratched, but the discs I have tried are fine. Has trouble reading the dvds and even loading up the menu screen. I think the problem could be that the lens needs cleaned. Anyone agree?

Also, can anyone rec a good lens cleaner?

Thanks in advance,

donalan,

Its very possible the lense needs cleaning. Most lense cleaning discs are under $10 these days, so, it's probably your Occams Razor solution. Not to mention its a fairly cheap diagnostic. If that doesn't work, I'd say call the store you bought from and ask about their return policy, or contact Sony's repair/replacement center.

Good luck,

Josh -- thanks for the reply.

I picked up a lens cleaner, but the DVD player won't even load that disc to go through the cleaning process. Should I try to clean in manually by taking the unit apart?

Sounds like you have only two choices: (1) Take it apart (an easy job, actually; the cover should unscrew and slide right off; then the lens may be under another protective plate, which comes off). Clean the lens with alcohol and a cotton swab. (2) Buy a new player. Since the machine costs less than $100, it would not pay to have it professionally cleaned or fixed.
