My new Christmas DVD player freezes up after several hours. Must unplug unit and plug it in again and its alright for several more hours. Any ideas?

Yes. If it's brand new, take it back and exchange it. Obviously, it is defective. Rather than trying to figure out how to fix it, get a new one. (This is assuming it isn't the discs you're playing that are defective.)
