I know there is currently a dvd player which is capable and does allow users to get 1080i via component leads. HD quality via component. Problem being my TV does support such resolution (Toshiba TH42pe50) but has no HDMI!

Are there any more DVD players available on the market?

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but no upscaling DVD player (of which there are many; most new ones, in fact) actually produces 1080 horizontal scan lines from 480 or less. The upscaling players cheat with things like line doubling, which do produce a noticeably better picture, but not one that is actuall high definition. Scaling is still scaling, not actual pixel reproduction. For that, we'll still have to wait for Blu-ray and HD-DVD to arrive.

Mst malik,
Jon is right. It is not true HD quality. but it is better than 480p imo. I have an old mitsu with no hdmi/dvi. But I can upconvert with my LG DVB418 player through component. if you go to videohelp.com and look up a dvd player you are interested in, they can show you some, what they call hack codes, that will bypass the hdcp and allow upconversion through component. you have to follow complete instructions. they have codes for LG, samsung, sony, toshiba, and many others, all upconverter players. works beautifully for me.;)
