Is Pioneer DVR-930H-S a good buy for HD?

I've been looking to buy a DVD player / HDD recorder and this Pioneer looks good.

It has HDMI output (I have a Pioneer Plasma with HDMI input).

I'm worried, though, that it will not play HD-DVD. Can anyone help me understand it will, or if I will need to buy ANOTHER bit of kit later, and that this will become a $1,500 white elephant...

There is not a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player on the market yet to my knowledge. If you want to play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, then pass on this one and wait until the players hit the market.

That being said, we use the Pioneer you are speaking of at work. This is a very good DVD product, but will not meet your need to play either the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray format.
