Thnx for the feed back,

I guess the info from Toshiba was false. So does that mean future DVD will not be able to display 1080 via compnent?

John, I was also told that it wasnt just the dvd's copy right protection but the player itself that limits the component output...is that also false?

I think I'll stick with up-converting 480p for now and when the real deal(1080p out) becomes available I'll revamp the entire sytem. LOL

The Toshiba player will play back what is on the disc in whatever form the studio who made the disc decides. There is the ability within the player to see if a disc is copy protected; if it is, the 1080i playback is limited to transmission through the HDMI output only. Through the component outputs, the copy-protected signal will be down-converted to 540.

However, it is up the studios to use the copy protection or not. WB's first three HD-DVDs are clearly marked "copy protected" on the back, yet they play back without any copy protection. I have the feeling that WB had a change of heart at the last minute and decided to go without the copy protection after they had printed up their covers. They probably wanted to see that HD-DVD got off to the smoothest possible start, without alienating too many users in the process. What they will do with copy protection in the future, and what the other studios will do with it, is anybody's guess.
