Hi everyone,
-First I just bought a Viewsonic LCD TV and I noticed closed captioning isn't working anymore with DVDs. I read somewhere CC didn't work on component cables, which is strange because it worked on my previous TV... ??? CC does work on TV programs though. My dvd player is a Sony DVP-NS55P...
-I'd like to have the best possible image but I'm not ready for HD-DVD or Blu-ray yet... I see HDMI compatible players are really affordable, but are they worth it ? Is there a real benefit of upscaling 480p to 720p or 1080i ?
TIA...

Not sure why the closed captioning wouldn't work anymore... my old(er) SD DVD player is a Sony, and it was hooked up with component, and I never had a problem.
Yes, it's worth it to get a player that upscales if you're not ready for either of the HD formats. I have an HD player, which upscales SD DVD to 720p, and it's truly amazing - nearly high-def. It just doesn't have that HD pop or sheen to it.
