I just returned from the premier. I have to say this was an excellent film! The dramatic overture's were a little overdone in spots, but it's a minor complaint. The soundtrack was very appropriately chosen, and would be something I would purchase. The acting, character building, even the composition of the shots were amazing! There were even some new "first person" views that were very well used, and only lended to the sense of "being there". Travolta gave a top notch performance, and Phoenix!!... I have to say, this is probably Phoenix's best performance yet!

Like it's predecessor "Backdraft", Ladder 49 has a "love interest" in it, but is not an overbearing element of the movie, as Backdraft demonstrated at times. Rather it's part of the character building. Ladder 49 also had some action sequences that will have you gripping your armrest! I may have a biased oppinion in that my father is a retired Firefighter, but I think this was a very well done film from any standpoint.

I've been excited for this movie for some time because it looked like it mixed humor and drama into a real portrait of life, and I'm glad to see I wasn't mislead. Thanks for the pre-review! :)

On the same vein, the TV series "Rescue Me" from FX is also a very funny and dramatic look at the NYFD post 9/11. It has Dennis Leary in it and is wicked funny.

Nice nice. I as well have been waiting for this one.

And an anamorphic Backdraft release is long overdue.

Just curious, does Robert Patrick have a big part in it?
