Just wondering if you guys have heard anything on the ROTK DVD like the release date and extras. Do you know when the release date will be announced? Any insight would be helpful.

Some "sources" say maybe around May for the theatrical cut.

Here's a cut and paste from thedigitalbits.com

"This falls in the category of rumor, because New Line has yet to officially announce the title. But we've heard from a number of retailers, indicating that they've been told by the studio to expect the theatrical version of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King on May 25th."

More than likely going to be in August, then November, like the past 2 movies. And ROTKFan is correct, you guys could do without being smart asses, and just give a more clear response.... 'some time this year' no really?

We covered this in a news article from Jan. 30. this year.

Here a May / June release date for the theatrical cut is mentioned. But nothing is confirmed from New Line yet.

Hey guys, I was just over at dvd.ign.com and they have ROTK listed for a May 25th release. Do you guys have any news of this. It was just put on the site today so it isnt old news or speculation.

OK, you better sit down...
PJ is so busy working on "King Kong" that the DVD's won't be available 'til 2006, E.E. probably late 2006. And that's if he doesn't start on another project, like "The Hobbit" right away.
oooooh 160 over 95! ;)
**Seriously, I've seen "May 25" and also "this summer".
During the past few weeks, ROTK has been doing better than TTT, almost as well as FOTR.
So my guess is.........AUGUST.

posters5,

Yes I realize there is no need for the use of harsh language here, but I did not comment on that in my last post, nor was it my intention to talk about DrunkenMonkey's use of the word ass and its plurals. That is between the both of you.

My point was you and Tim made a joke (supposedly), rotkfan took it the wrong way (can't really blame him, none of us except you staff guys found the joke funny), and the both of you just continued in the same manner. Granted rotkfan might be a little enthusiastic/impatient, but the both of you needn't have kept acted mean (or is that funny for you guys?). Let's have a look and see what I'm talking about, shall we?

rotkfan:
"Hey guys, I was just over at dvd.ign.com and they have ROTK listed for a May 25th release. Do you guys have any news of this. It was just put on the site today so it isnt old news or speculation."

posters5:
"there are a lot of rumors floating around, but as henning said, new line hasn't made an official announcement yet. therefore, calm down."

Tim Raynor:
"Like Eddie said, calm down."

rotkfan:
"What do you mean calm down? I was just stating some facts on the dvd. Cant I show some enthusiasum on a film. Jeez."

posters5:
"like we said, calm down."

Now tell me if you think the exhange above was appropriate. I think it wasn't. Rotkfan, irritating as he may be, was serious in his inquiries. You and Tim on the other hand, decided to play some games, and he didn't like it. As I see it, neither you or Tim gave any real information or help (at least Henning and I tried to give some info). It seemed like you guys were, to use a common internet lingo, "trolling" in this thread. But I cut some slack - nothing about the release date is confirmed. And fine if you guys want to have some fun and aren't into speculation in this matter (because you DO speculate on other stuff as evidenced by other threads). The question is, why toy around with a user who obviously isn't up for it?

OK fine I will repress the need to elaborate in the future. I'm just expressing how I feel in the matter and speaking my mind.

YCH,

Take a look at the thread again. rotkfan asked about a release date. Tim replied with a joke. rotkfan became irritated. I followed Tim's lead with a repeated, good-natured joke.

Now, it's entirely possible that, without the use of emoticons, the joke that Tim and I used could be taken the wrong way. If that's the case, then I'll remember to use a big grin for my jokes in the future. However, a misunderstanding over tone does not give DrunkenMonkey any excuse for calling people names.

Notice how no one else felt the need to use the word "ass" in a disparaging manner.

I think the reply "sometime this year" might have been funny the first time around, but when used repeatedly it loses the jest factor. With all due respects Eddie, Tim's initial reply might be a cheeky one, but your reply "like tim said, sometime this year" sounded...negative and irritated. If you prefer not to speculate, then it is best not to reply at all. After all, the DVD release *might* not be this year; we can't say with certainty that the DVDs will arrive in stores this year, so in the end, a reply in the vein of "sometime this year" is neither enthusiastic nor is it totally objective.

And by the way, I visit DVDTown regularly, and yet I did not know Tim was a big fan of the LOTR series. I also did not know what to make of Tim's first reply; I really didn't know whether he was annoyed or otherwise. I'm bringing this up just as an aside.
Friday, February 20, 2004
Member since:

Tim's "Sometime this year." post was made in pure jest. Given that you seem to visit DVD Town with regularity, you should know that Tim is a big fan of the "LOTR" series. Therefore, to have rotkfan throw a hissy fit was rather awkward, and to have you come in here calling people names did not help the situation at all.

As for re-entering under another name...unless you keep quiet the second time around, it'd be easy to tell who it is that is calling people "ass".

Dude, you are one to talk about rude people. This guy is simply asking some questions on return of the king and you and tim give the thickly sarcastic 'sometime this year' response. I'm fairly sure he knew that. You could've at least did what I said and guessed maybe that it'd be later in the year as the other movies have been (surprisingly I was wrong on that anyways). Then you tell him to calm down? As he said, for what? HE'S JUST ASKING A QUESTION. Sometimes I wonder if YOU should be allowed to post replies on here. Often you aren't any help at all. Go ahead and ban my name, I'll just re-enter else where.

I went to New Line's LOTR's site. I believe when I clicked on "Home Entertainment",
TTT EE came up, but a NOT SO PESKY popup window also erupted. It has a picture of the DVD's and videos (theatrical), and next to them a brief statement saying ...there will be more details on ***MARCH EIGHTH, 2004.***
Until then, it is playing at a theatre near you, yes, right now!:)

Wow. We movie fans can be pretty emotional about our movies eh? All joking aside, I think a lot of people (staff included) may forget that without the visual and audio keys that humans use in interpreting meaning behind spoken word often get lost in written text. With respect to all parties involved... CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?!!

Oh, I suppose I should state, that that last line was meant sarcastically.;)

Alex,

You misunderstood my offer of helping you finish one review for the actual application process. At any rate, your writing abilities would not have gotten you on to the site's staff because a) DVD Town has a certain standard that needs to be met and b) it's not practical to have someone babysit another writer full-time.

Ego has really nothing to do with it. The simple fact of the matter is. Although yes, I did show doubt about the whole thing, you pushed me on, which I appreciated. I finished the review, and felt better about it having gotten through it. When that was all said and done, I had the impression that I still had a shot at getting in. You never said you were moving on to anyone else. So yeah I'm ready, ask what you want me to do now, and then suddenly you're like "oh yeah don't worry about it I've moved on to hire someone else". And acted like it was some big joke, as you seem to like to do on this site.
You should've been more clear in what you were doing and not have me wasted my time writting for no reason what so ever. Hell the least you could've done is post my review on here so what I wrote wasn't pointless.... Whatever I'm sure you don't care, I don't all that much either anymore, just don't appreciate your attitude on things.

Not to speculate on your actual intent, but it seemed more like a "last word" reply than anything. Guess that's why the lack of visual context in posting often leads to misinterpretation.

Seems to me that Nachtkriechen's post was as good a stopping place as any, but one of you just had to make a return appearance.

Let's hope the next post (if there is one) in not one of you simply typing something like "Last Word" or some kind of smiley. Now THAT would be lame.....

No offense to either Posters or Drunken Monkey, but I hope you guys at least feel better, and hopefully got that out of your systems. Again no offense, but if you guys are going to "duke it out" it might be more appropriate to open up a "personal gripe" topic in the main menue. I like to hear differing opinions on any given topic, but in this instance it turned into a whirlwind of gauntlet slaps, and left the objective topic so quickly that it dominated the thread. At least you both kept it clean and unoffensive.

ARE YOU SO FULL OF IT THAT IF ANYONE ELSE'S WRITING DOESN'T MATCH YOURS THAT THEY ARE A FAILURE? HERE'S A LITTLE FACT FOR YOU, YOUR REVIEWS AREN'T THAT GREAT, THAT'S WHY YOU'RE ON A SIMPLE WEBSITE AND NOT A PROFESSIONAL REVIEWER! HOW ABOUT LEARN SOME COMPASSION NEXT TIME AROUND AND YOU WON'T GET DISGRUNTLED PEOPLE SUCH AS MYSELF.

You are by far the most arrogant person I've come across, and I truely hope that someday you get over it. This page has gone on long enough, and only because I was simply defending another member of this site that you decided to pick on. Alex,

You're the one who can't "let it go", especially with your repeated attempts to get the "last word".

I write reviews as a hobby, not as a profession. You mistake venue for ability.

Earlier, you challenged me by writing that you might not need help with your grammar after your first review, but given your current sentence compositions, I see no indication of improvement.

Dude, this is a message board, I'm not writing a piece of literature. I don't think composition is really the issue here. And I'm not trying to get "the last word". I believe skspence came up with that. The post right before his was, and I swear by this, a simple comment to the post right before mine. I had no intention of continuing until he kept provoking me into responding. He was correct about one thing, I do ruffle easily and I don't appreciate being made fun of, so I will defend myself and speak my mind. Apparently, an atrocity on this site. I'm fed up with this whole ordeal so if you would please, stop with the puns and put downs, because it is very VERY old. I don't care if you or anyone else posts again as long as it won't provoke another response out of me.

Man! Forget gasoline! People are chucking in grenades, C4, white phosphorus, and any other "iritant" you can think of! I have to admit, it is a bit fun to read it... but only in the "Jerry Springer" sense. Which is sad really, because what that ultimately translates into is 'how low can our IQ's go'? Oh well... to quote DM "people are people".
Drunken... man, I'd forget what everyone's saying. Be confident in your own ability, and don't let what they write ring through as truth to you, or think that other people that read it will think the same. There's no need to defend yourself over someone else's 'opinion'. People are going to think what they want no matter what you write in defense. If you know that you're "easily ruffled", don't let the people out there that get off on it, ruffle you. Think about how much wasted time, effort and energy you're expending by not only writing back in defense of what other people write or think, but the wasted time being angry afterwards as well. Anger tends to feed off of itself. No one can get under your skin, you unless you let them.

Just a thought.

So are any of you going to sit through all 9 hours of LOTR extended editions if theaters release them as one long marathon? I don't know if I could hang. I'd need a lazy boy to get maximum comfort! Not to mention a defibrilator for my butt!

I can't seem to find the information on the net for the DVD release of ROTK extended edition. I thought I remembered someone here saying it was pushed back to December. Is that right?
