For those of you who haven't read Eddie's Farewell Address, he'll be leaving soon on a new and wondrous adventure that will take him across the far reaches of Europe and Asia. Because he will not be back in the continental United States for the foreseeable future, he will no longer be able to review Region 1 DVDs, and it is our great loss. His tenure here has made him a welcome household name among readers.

However, before we get all weepy about somehow losing a friend, let me remind you that although he may be farther away, he will not be gone. Indeed, via the miracle of the Internet we may hear from him more often than ever. As our new International Editor, Eddie will be closer to the heart of the audio, video, and electronics worlds than any of us, and, thus, he'll be keeping us abreast of the greatest and latest breaking news from around the globe.

So, while we have appreciated Eddie's fine work in the past as a reviewer and Managing Editor, we will continue to appreciate his work in articles, Reader Comments, and Message Board insights in the coming years. Thanks, Eddie. We love ya.

Dave,

Being a fan of history, I'm aware that, from many angles, the U.S. looks a lot less perfect than some Americans myopically believe. (Check out my review of "Tae Guk Gi" to see what I mean.) This isn't even a matter of looking for problems where none exist. Like any other place in the world, the U.S. has issues that can be avoided entirely if its people simply made decisions based on thinking rather than on feeling. Alas, some people are reluctant to think...

Anyway, I am treating my journey to Europe and China as a mini-vacation. I will learn what I have to learn, of course (this trip is supposed to be one for technical training), but I will enjoy the sights and try to get some rest.

Many thanks for your encouraging words!

Eddie,

Enjoy your time in Europe and Asia. The US truely looks different from that far away. Its good to see the perspectives of the world. I just returned from Rome and the class I TAed there. Thats why I didn't post much in the past 1/4 of the year. I learned alot and made some great friends, I wish all of the same for your trip. Though it sounds like you are taking a much much bigger trip. I am thinking about moving to Italy, I had such a good time. You will too. Though your reviews will be missed. But Thanks.

P.S. Josh, look in the Articles section or on the main page for a link to my farewell address.

COB? Really? I could have sworn a while back, a certain Mr. Feng was hoping for the "Emperor" title! ... EOB? ;) I do like the 'Editor At Large' title though. :D

Where's this "farewell address" John speaks of? What are you going to be doing on your globe trotting? Work? Pleasure? School? All of the above?

Josh,

Well, John refuses to let me go quietly into the night, so I'll be as contributive as possible during this transition phase in my life.

For now, we're having problems deciding what my new title will be. John seems to prefer International Editor, though Editor-at-Large makes sense, too. Still, if my main presence will be in the Message Board, perhaps Chairman-of-the-Board could work. :D

Man, that was a shock of a post John! I guess I missed Eddie's farewell! Though, since it's not truely 'goodbye', I don't feel 'as' bad.

Eddie,

It's been great trading banter with you on the boards. And even though, as John mentioned, you're not gone for good, I can't help but feel like we're losing a good friend. I've always enjoyed your candid reviews, and remarks, and as John also mentioned, I hope this isn't the last we'll hear from you.

Good luck to you Eddie, and hopefully we'll see you on the boards in the near future.

Best wishes.

Eddie,

Wow, I never knew you were part of "Startrek.com"! What a lucky dude you are! I knew that you were "hobnobbing" Eddie, but DANG man! You've gotten to meat a ton of huge names! I've been a fan of Scott Bacula since the "Quantum Leap" days! And of course, sitting in the Enterprise captains chair... I think that's every nerd's dream. I am truely envyous of your "mini-vacation". One of my biggest goals in life is to see every famous place in the world at least once. I've gotten some of Europe out of the way, but have never been anywhere in Asia, or south of the equator for that matter. I'm working on it. Either Russia, Japan, or Australia is next on my list... hopefully when I graduate with my Associates in Animation in Spring of 2007.

You have lived my friend! How cool would it have been to be in your shoes for the last 2 years?! And it looks like it's not ending here. Though, I do wonder how you'll top your last 2 years.

Check in with us here on the boards once in a while Eddie. It wouldn't be the same without ya.
