"nattering nabobs of negativism"
VP Agnew
:@
Hopefully, they can come up with a plot good enough so they don't have to go through an hour of getting the cast and car together and explaining everything.

Maybe so, Josh. Fact is, even in its day, I never liked it as a kid. ;)

Tim,
Keep in mind, that this TV show's largest demographic probably wasn't adults. I myself was a kid when it came out, and loved it "as a kid". If I tried to watch a "Dukes Of Hazzard" episode now, it would be easier to watch than some of the other shows I thought were great at that age, but it is still hard to watch as an adult. About the only great thing about that show is that every time they jumped the "General Lee", they destroyed a Dodge Charger. Actual destruction versus CG destruction. Gotta love it!

Why not?
Because Hollywood needs to stop relying on rehashing old TV shows and concentrate on finding good and original writers. First of all, "Dukes of Hazzard" had to be the lamest television shows ever made. I mean, how exciting can it be to watch a couple guys get chased around by the county sherifs Dept in every episode? Woo hoo, there's nothing I enjoy more than a television show that can lower my IQ to that of a back-woods Hillbilly.
Second of all, the whole revamping any TV show is getting remarkably old in my opinion. Anytime Hollywood rekindles some old show form the past, it's their way of saying, "hey, we've ran out of ideas, so here's a filler movie to close the gap". To me, it's as if Hollywood has become nothing more than a recycle machine. And of all TV shows to make into a movie . . . Dukes of Hazzard? Please, give me a break!!!
Tim (just my two cents and I hope this film dies a very quick death) :@

I don't know about this one. I was/am a HUGE fan of "The Dukes Of Hazzard" tv show, and surprisingly the episodes are still somewhat stomachable. However... to see this tv series come to the big screen?... that's another story entirely. As you mentioned mra, if it's "done well", and you get a good cast together, but more importantly, have an excellent writer, you could pretty much do a movie about the phone book, and have it be a good film. However, the chances of this becoming a good movie are probably pretty slim. I had also heard that there was a "Knight Rider" movie in the works where "David Hasselhof" would be making a cameo. As much as I loved that series as well... it's just not a good idea.
Although the thought of seeing that bright orange Dodge Charger fly through the air one last time with that "General Lee" horn going off, does sort of give me chills. I'd be pissed if they didn't use an exact replica of the original Charger (rims and all) though. Oh well.... I'm sure there are worse ideas out there.

Tim,
Not to be combative, but what DID you like on TV back then?
mra,
I don't mean to sound flippant, but what's there to explain? This is probably one of the most simple TV series ideas in history! ;)

Josh,
"The Love Boat", of course. What better show was there? lol :D Just kidding.
You know, that is a good question, Josh. I can't say there were too many television shows I liked as a kid, besides a few of the shows I would watch with my folks. I've always just mainly been into movies more than anything else. However, if you'd like to know what television I did enjoy, here goes:
Mash
Star Trek (old show with Shattner, even though I just find him a laugh now)
Twilight Zone (old B/W shows)
Night Gallery
Magnum PI
Mr. Ed
Bugs bunny Road Runner Show
Mission Impossible
Those are just a few of the older shows I can think of. There are probably a few more I liked but I just can't think of them right now.
Tim ;)

Tim,
I think I understand now. For a moment there I thought you were one of those kids that had his nose stuck in a book all the time, and whos parents thought that tv was evil. You've got some good TV series listed there. As odd as it may sound, I can still get into "M*A*S*H"... as long as I don't have to watch or listen to the opening theme song. Ironically the opening song's title is "Suicide Is Painless". MASH still makes me laugh. Alan Alda is a king of comedy! But the writers deserve a lot of credit as well.
I loved the original Star "TrAck";) as well. I agree it's hard to watch now unless you're making fun of it with a bunch of friends. "Kirk" slept with anything that had two leggs. He had that double handed hit that kicked anyone's butt. And of course the obnoxious music that coincided with the fight scenes. Jim Carrey best parodied that in "Cable Guy". "Scotty" (much like "Jordy LaForge") could fix ANYTHING that happened to the ship, no matter how catostrophic... unless it was one of the movies... then they just let the Enterprise die, and made a new one. ;)
To this day I still love the old "Twilight Zone" series.
Magnum I loved for the Ferrari 308. Tom, was a pretty cool guy too. I loved the episode where he (Tom) blew up "Higgin's" miniature of the Bridge on the river Kwai.
I didn't get into "Mission Impossible" or "Mr. Ed" very much. I liked "Get Smart". "Missed it by THAT much!"
But I'm with you on the "Bugs Bunny & Roadrunner Show".
