What do you people expect from this movie? Personally I think it will be another Troy. Which could be bad. I hate that Hollywood thinks that any movie set in B.C. times will be another Gladiator. When will they learn that movies need substance before anything else. It not alwayse intrinsic in the subject.

dmwarner,
I'm not sure what to expect from this film. As per usual, the trailer makes it look like a good movie, but that's never definitive. I never did get to see "Troy", so can I reasonably assume that you thought "Troy" was just "ok"? If the makers of "Troy" basically reproduced "Gladiator", that is pretty lame. Hollywood does tend to follow trends, so "Alexander" could very well be yet another copycat. Let's hope not.

I wouldn't quite consider Troy a refurbished Gladiator. They're pretty different. Only thing really in common would be that they're both war epics.
Personally I'm looking forward to Alexander a lot. I'm a fan of Stone and a pretty big follower of Farrell. I think he's easily one of the most talented newcomes to hit Hollywood mainstream as of late. Haven't seen him in anything since SWAT. "A Home at the End of the World" was too small of a flick to make it's way to my neck of the woods. Though, the dvd does come out in 2 weeks.
As for Troy. I rather enjoyed it. The story is told from a more historical point of view rather than mythological. If you enjoy good performances (Cox, Bana, Pitt, Bean, O'Toole, Gleeson), big battles, and historical ass kicking with high production values you should come out satisfied. The story itself isn't quite spectacular but there is plenty to like.

"...big battles, and historical ass kicking..." - Depression
That was pretty dang funny Depression! Nicely put! :D
I suppose I'm going to have to wait for "Troy" to make it's way to DVD before I see it. I'm not positive, but I think it's come and gone from our "dollar theaters". I need to get my lazy butt to the theater before "Sky Captain" leaves the nice theaters as well!

The problems with Troy are too numerous to mention all of them. The most glaring problems were in how they deviated from Homer's classic, the dialogue was telagraphed, and the characters motives were acted out badly and seemed shallow. Also Hellen should be named Hellga with the Germanic features of the actress. Granted Pitt and Bana made the best of what they had to work with. I wasn't reffering Troy as looking like Gladiator, I was making a comparison to Gladiator's success and what the Troy makers hoped for. Historically Gladiator was a mess but did convey some aspects and themes of Rome very well. Troy was a historically all across the board. From armour to tactics to weapons some of it was good but most of it was wrong.

Alexander looks like it will take the same historically wishy washy road. I like Farrell too but he is not right for the role of Alexander.

You know whats funny, I think Diane Kruger looks 10x better in National Treasure than she did in Troy where she was supposed to look stunning.

WOW most Homosexually charged movie ever. Its like being visually TEEBAGED for 2 hours and the rest is mindless filler and women talking like bad fake Russians. It’s a movie that’s only reason for existing is to push the gay envelope and man do they push it.

What do expect from the Irish pretty boy and Artsy-Fartcy(sp.) Oliver Stone. the movie was Domed when it was cast. it is hard to make a movie that is supposed to be about a important Character in history. Gladiator was good because they did not take real events and turn them in to a Hollywood movie.

Personally.. The worst movie I have ever seen in Theatres! Give me a break... I really wanted my money back.... Val Kilmer? Angelina Jolie? Anthony Hopkins? and worst Colin (I really don't know if I am High, anymore!) Farrell? Off-Set I heard this was more of an Orgy than a Movie.

C'mon, Colin is a great actor, if not one of the best in his age category.
Sure he's put out Alexander, American Outlaws, but he's also done marvelous jobs in A Home at the End of the World, Minority Report, Phonebooth, and Hart's War.
He just needs to start picking out some better roles. Though, turning down an Oliver Stone film where you play Alexander must have sounded Oscar worthy on paper. :o .
I read an article recently in GQ about the off-set antics while shooting Alexander. Much like everything in Colin's life, it seemed to be blown out of proportion. A few of the guys went out and bought some traditional skirts or something in one of the areas they were shooting and would flash people.
But yeah, bad movie!
