how else could part 2 have ended, though? freddo messed up big time, and if he wasn't michael's brother, then michael wouldn't have felt bad at all.

As long as they don't do a lame Hollywood cash-in of "Godfather Part IV" that ruins the whole series, than the Godfather trilogy is the greatest trilogy and best movies of all time. Part III was a wonderful, dramatic conclusion to the story that was everything I hoped it would be and more. Part III is not the best of the trilogy, but I can't decide on a best because although Part I is the original, Part II is so well-done with one of the best endings in film history. Michael is so paranoid, power-hungry and caught up in the business that he kills his own brother for betraying him. The film ends with a shot of an aging Michael, sitting thoughtfully and full of contemplation, and you can see his sadness and the demons he has to deal with that he brought down upon himself. I wish I had a picture in a frame of that final shot, or I wish it was the picture on my profile here. Part III logically yet wonderfully continued the story, showing how the family business keeps getting passed down throughout the generations and ruining the family one by one. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in." Michael develops diabetes later in life, which hinders his ability to control the family along with his ever-increasin age and he passes the torch to the impulsive, intimidating yet strong Vincent. The scene where Michael takes confession was very powerful, and the murders happening simultaneous to the opera were perfectly edited and dramatic. I love Part III, and I urge you not to take the critics and skeptics word for it. It's a great film.

well, it's like what my colleague john puccio wrote in his review of the whole set--sofia was playing a naive, young girl who was more interested in what young people like to do rather than the nasty business of her father's life. it's what the role required. therefore, it was sad to see her caught up in the maelstrom of mafia happenings. if people didn't like the character, then they shouldn't have bagged on sofia that badly.

Everyone hates Part III becasue of Sofia Coppola as Mary Corleone. While her performance wasn' great, it also wasn't nearly as bad as everyone said it was and it didn't do anything to drag the movie down. Pacino's acting is ALWAYS good, like in Mary's death scene. ANdy Garcia was great as well. Diane Keaton, recent Oscar nominee, had a WONDERFUL performance in this one. Part III probably had her best performance in the Godfather series. Anyway, I love all 3 and wish people would give Part III a chance.

I've heard Godfather Part IV rumors, such as that Andy Garcia and/or Leonardo DiCaprio would be in it and that it would be told in flashback/present styple a la Godfather Part II and it would deal with Vincent's rise to power and the lost years of Vito Corleone or something. But it's all just rumors and specualtion, and Coppola publicly stated at the DVD Press Conference that there would be no GF IV. Also, Mario Puzo died recently and i don't know if they can make another one without his permission. I hope they don't do a GF IV because I like the trilogy just the way it is.
