Just curious to see what people thought of this movie. I loved it....was intrigued by the different genres that were mixed together: horror, drama, martial arts, and the fact that it was a period piece. The action scenes were choreographed well, and the 3-disc Canadian R1 edition has one of the best DTS tracks I've ever heard, even though it's in French.

any thoughts???

Eddie did a review of this movie:

I liked it quite more than Eddie did, but that's just Eddie. He only likes stuffy art films and cheesy Sci-Fi like Starship Troopers. :D

I would have rated BOTW a 8/10. I loved the atmosphere and overall feel of the film. Very well thought-out action sequences and plenty of intense drama. Probably one of the better warewolf stories told in the last ten years or more.

Not to disrespect what you or Tim have written, but I really thought this movie was a crap film. I think it was the fact that on the whole the movie was "supposed" to be a horror film. Then you have the drama, and the martial arts, and everything else. Very few writers (let alone directors) could effectively pull off something like that, and make it seemless. You can't advertise something to your audience or "focus group", as a "horror", and then try to turn it into a drama/martial arts/period piece/whatever! As a "horror" flick, it was VERY lacking. Cheesey hand held, and double frame rate cameras to simulate the speed of "the beast". COMPLETELY obnoxious sound effects! And the elaborate sex orgy stereotypical of French films. None of it meshed, it looks like they took a bunch of ideas from a slew of different genres, and then tried to turn it into a film. More is not necessarily "better".

I think Josh is just jealous that he wasn't in a sex scene with Monica Belucci ;).

Hey nacht...

No disrespect....I expect people to have different opinions, as we all do. I just never would have posted what I said about Brotherhood.. on any other site, because I would have had a new hole ripped open for me by someone else because they didn't like the movie, or the Canadian DVD for that matter.

But that's why I love THIS site.....we can do what these discussion boards were meant for....."discussing!!" Not countless bickering and name-calling.

Much thanks and respect to whomever gave us, the movie lovers, the opportunity to do so.

This thread's timing is impeccable. I saw "Brotherhood of the Wolf" two years ago and I hated it. At the urging of my roommate I decided to give it another chance this weekend. Unfortunetly, I still hated it. This film just does not work for me. I dont like the action scenes. The slow motionstood out too much, and to me, it seemed like the director was trying to be too "artsy-fartsy." None of his slam-bam editing seem to make any sense, except to be "artsy-fartsy," almost like the director was using this film as attention getter to the industry. Ultimately, I dont think the style lent anything to the story. It just drew too much attention to itself. I usually like genre-bending films, the best example I can think of is "Three Kings," but I just think that he tried to so hard to make this a period piece, horror, and a martial arts, that every genre lacked.

Anyway, welcome to the site Italy, as Josh said this is the place to be. Even though sometimes there can be a bold difference of opinion, you will never be rediculed for your opinion.

Ben,

As right as you may be, that's beside the point!! ;) :D

Italy12,

I hope you didn't take any offense to what I wrote. I was just posting my thoughts on the film, nothing personal. You're exactly right, and it's why I (and just about all of the other members of DVD Town) come here as well. We've all said at one time or another, that DVD Town is the place to be! It sounds like we have yet another (quality member) in you Italy12. Welcome, and I look forward to "discussing" with you on this, and other threads!

personally, I LOVED this film. In terms of action films, it thought this was an incredibly fresh twist. Action meets horror meets martial arts meets drama meets period peice... all balanced very well. Sure, there are a few moments that boarder on cheesy, but overall I REALLY loved this film. Cinematography was great, acting was honest and you could actually get into the charicters a little. Action sequences we're slick and fun....

I gave it an 8.5 out of 10.

8)

I loved it so much, in fact, that I just won a bid on the now hard to find 3-disc collectors set on ebay. :D
