Today, Tuesday morning, I wake up to read the TWO new reviews of the HD DVD of U2: RATTLE AND HUM. When placing my cursor over one U2 image link (it says the review is by DEAN) and so I click to read his excellent review. Then I go back to the home page, and put my cursor over another U2 image link (and this one says it's by William David Lee), and guess what? IT'S NOT LINKED PROPERLY AND TAKES YOU TO THE SAME REVIEW BY DEAN (!) :(
Please correct and/or provide the link to the Lee review - thanks!

LH,
We just wanted to make sure you read Dean's review. :)
In any case, somebody else seems to have spotted the mistake, too, and corrected it.

Dean's reviews are usually very good!
But the "situation" for this HD DVD is getting wierder...
Tonight, when you place your cursor over the U2 cover image [middle-right of home page], it says the review is by Christopher Long (?), although when clicking-thru the image [or even the other, plain text link near top-right] the review presented is *again* the one by Dean.
So, despite all appearances otherwise, the dvdtown site is only presenting ONE review - as of this moment - unless things change. So, although this site's webmaster has twice indicated [cursor "pop-up" data] that reviews for U2-RATTLE AND HUM are also available by William Lee and Chris Long... the only one I can find is Dean's review. :(
More strange is that, although dvd review sites have had their advance copy disc for 2-3 weeks, today - the announced STREET AVAILABILITY date - this title is NOT for sale on Amazon [will try other sites as well, and local stores here in Houston]. Wanted to save a little (Amazon), but may just buy it at BBuy if they have it this week.
Also, another question for the dvdtown staff (John etc) - I tried to purchase (twice) HD DVD discs thru your on-site links, but the pages are NOT coded to be sent to Amazon (or elsewhere) for a purchase. Usually online sites try to receive support from visitors who buy "thru" the site links, like the Amazon sales program that's been around for several years now.
Are any DVDs listed for sale on dvdtown "link-coded" to a site like Amazon?

You know, you keep saying there are these other names on Dean's U2 review, but when I check, there is only one U2 review on HD-DVD, and it's Dean's. Right now, for instance, it's only Dean's review that shows up anywhere. He's the reviewer for Paramount HD-DVDs, so he's the only one who would review it, unless he gave permission to someone else to do it. Anyway, it's a mystery to me.
As to the availability of the U2 disc on HD-DVD, you're right. I checked with DVD Empire, who do not list it, and Amazon, who say it is coming. I also checked with Paramount's press site, and they still have it listed for release today, Aug. 8. I suspect it is possible that they sent out the review promos, but then postponed the release date by a week or so because of supply difficulties or whatever.
As far as the sales links go here at the site, we don't actually sell anything at DVDTOWN. But we have advertisers who sell stuff; they are responsible for their own links.

John, it sure is a mystery to me on how your webmaster "labels" the image link data!
(1) Specifically, when I enter - EXTERNAL LINK - in the browser, the page begins loading. As it's loading, the title-box outlines appear [right side] from the top on down, with text links (to various titles) between the space of the boxes.
WHILE, the box images are loading, I put my mouse cursor over a box, and up pops the text data for that link - disc title, format [DVD or HD DVD], and particularly the REVIEWED BY "fill-in-name".
And even after the images are loaded and viewable, you can use your cursor to place over the image, so that the pop-up information is provided [and the reviewer's name is supplied so you can know BEFORE clicking thru the link].
NOW, just a few minutes ago, I put my cursor yet again over the U2-RATTLE AND HUM image, and your webmaster - THIS TIME - says the review is by someone named "James Plath", but (of course, like before with all the other names I mentioned above!), the ACTUAL review is by Dean W... ?
So, what is going on? I mean, why does your webmaster list all of these different names in the pop-up data, when there is only the one person's review? I thought that this site features more than one review of a release (as I've seen this a few times).
But since the U2 HD DVD disc is reviewed by Dean, *WHY* then when your cursor is put over the image [before clicking thru to the review], the webmaster says the review is by (take your pick) - JAMES PLATH, WILLIAM DAVID LEE, and CHRISTOPHER LONG... ?
It makes no sense - please check with your webmaster about this!
Furthur, I wonder if I should do a random "image-link check" of the ongoing various titles shown in the boxes, and see just how many are actually reviewed by the name supplied in the webmaster-provided "pop-up" data...?
(2) And another thing, could you please LIST THE STUDIO of the DVD and HD DVD release titles?
I noticed a review yesterday [can't remember the title right now], and the reviewer never mentions anywhere what "studio" or "home entertainment" company had released the DVD; he just assumed the viewers would know.
The reason I want to know this information, is IF the title is released by a studio supporting HD DVD, then I'd rather wait until that title is available in this format, before renting and viewing the film for the first time. So, adding this information is important to some of us. Thanks!

LH,
I passed along your observation to our editor, Henning Molbaek. It's a momentary glitch that he will take care of shortly. Thanks much for bringing it to our attention.
As for the studio information, you will always find the studio listed under the "DVD Details," a heading you can click on at the top of each page of each review. The reviewer assumes the reader would find this information easily enough.

LH,
The editor decided to delete the reviewers' names from the pop-up boxes on the left side of the Main Page for the time being until he can investigate the source of the problem.
As for multiple reviews of the same titles, we avoid that unless there is a new edition of a title (SE or HD-DVD or Blu-ray), and a new reviwer is assigned to it.
Those few reviews that list more than one reviewer we call joint reviews. Eddie and I have done a number of them, for instance. We don't do it often, but when we do, they are meant to give the reader differing points of view on a topic. Otherwise, you will find only one reviewer for each review, and you will not find more than one review (unless it is an agreed upon joint review) for the same disc.
Finally, if you'd like to see which reviewers have done what, simply look at our "Last 50 Added Reviews" (top of the Reviews page) or our comprehensive archive, "All Reviews A - Z," which lists every review ever posted at DVDTOWN (also to be found at the top of the Review page). The reviewer's name appears beside each title.

Eddie - LOL! (above comment)
Well, while John has NOT yet posted again with an update, it looks like they've solved the "link error" problem, by removing the "Reviewed by ___" in the pop-up data. Just checked a few of those image-boxes with my mouse-cursor and now the pop-up data gives only the disc title and format. That should solve the confusion.
So, you must click-thru to the actual review to see who is the writer.
I had thought there were different pages for multiple reviews of the same title - because of the "pop-up" data with the different "Reviewed by ___" names. Now, I see that IF a title has multiple reviews - say "V for Vendetta" - ALL participating staff members have their reviews on a single long page.
(This is different from dvdtalk.com's method - multiple reviews on a single title are given seperate URL pages.) Well, however dvdtown wishes to do it is OK - just don't confuse us viewers with a mistake like the one I (and others?) discovered, as described on this thread.

That's good John, I'm glad you and others realize I'm not in the "twilight zone" here in discovering this frustrating "pop-up" link-label glitch. :D
And now congrats to you! About 45 minutes ago [before 6:00 A.M. central, Thursday 8/10] now it is your name being shown in the pop-up for the U2 disc as the "reviewed by" person.
I placed my cursor over the following titles, and ALL said YOU John were the reviewer (1 was correct, and 1 other was partially correct since it was a "group" review by you and others on staff... but 4 others were WRONG.)
DVD - SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS - cursor said "reviewed by John J Puccio" - CORRECT
DVD - V FOR VENDETTA - cursor said... [same as above] - PARTIALLY CORRECT
DVD - APOCALYPSE NOW (Complete Dossier) cursor said... [same as above] - WRONG
DVD - SCARY MOVIE 4 - cursor said... [same as above] - WRONG
HD DVD - WE WERE SOLIDERS - cursor said... [same as above] - WRONG
HD DVD - U2 RATTLE AND HUM - cursor said... [same as above] - WRONG
So, please have your editor and webmaster look into this glitch. I fear that it is widespread for any of those rotating boxed-image title links [right side of home page, top to bottom].
As for "dvd sales", that Amazon sales program I mentioned is a way for this site to earn revenue from visitor's disc purchases; I think the paid commission is 15% off sale price [visit Amazon for details]. See, you don't have to "sell" (or stock) anything - the coded links will tell Amazon that a disc being sold on Amazon's site came from a customer who did a "click-thru" from the dvdtown website.
So, instead of simply stating "buy it from Amazon" - as this site does currently - your superiors can easily set up a paid commission sales program, with Amazon providing the coded link know-how for all your reviewed discs [or those mentioned whether viewed or], and then dvdtown will receive additional revenue supported by the visitors and fans who use this site, then click-thru a link to purchase on Amazon.
Note: the links to Amazon can be from an image, or also text. So think of the possible thousands of disc titles mentioned on this site, that could result in new revenue coming in, from dvdtown visitors who decide to purchase "thru" this site over to Amazon.
MANY other websites participate in this program [some for up to 5-6 years now], for all kinds of Amazon product sales - DVDs, CDs, Books, electronics etc. Check it out!
