well just looking for some opinions of i, robot. i, myselft thought of it in many ways, at first i thought about the world war with germany and the jews and how they were repressed, but when the new robots were fighting the older robots i was thinking about more of the time of racism with african americans, i'm confused on this all movie, post your opinions and set me straight! heh thanks

Read the book by "Isaac Asimov", you'll get more from the original story than any screen play can give you.

I wanted to ascribe meanings to it too, perhaps because the story seemed so archetypal, but in the end I came to the conclusion that it really was its own beast. It is a story of a new breed of machines and their place in the world. It's about the nature of intellegence and understanding each other. I don't think that there is one particular plight that's reflected, rather the nature of oppression. Because it's so familiar is one of the reasons it worked for me.

SPOILERS BELOW-DONT READ IF NOT SEEN FILM YET

Acceptance.
You have a something new that happens in society everywhere (Robots serving People)
You have the old-head people who judge anything new or evolutionary due to their beliefs (Symbolized with Will Smith)
You have the evil force that tries to use this technology for its own purposes (At the begining u think its the guy that owns USRobotics, Later you find out that its the Main CPU)
You have the public which is confused over this (The damzel in distress)
You have an apocalyptic climax, and a prophetic machine which "dreams" the future.
A Machine that liberated others of its own. The Old robot saving its own kind by defeating the new "kind". In the end will smith and the "good" robot have the same purpose, to end something they think its dangerous, in the end they are both right.
No actuall meaning of this movie in my opinion, just pseudo-Lyricism about existence itself, which ultimately concludes (after the screening) to another popcorn-lyristic wannabe.
If you want to go deep into acceptance tales for survival in futuristic worlds of perfectness, i recomment "Gataca", great characters, Excellent direction and meanings that also apply to 2days world.

:) Cheers!

I don't think that the movies in the "The Matrix" series are particularly meaningful, either. A lot of philosophical ideas are tossed into the mix, but nothing coherent comes out of it.

Just because something offers an idea doesn't mean that it deserves people's attentions.

Do I get the feeling that Tim's trying to get a rise out of people tonight? I think it's that "Open Water" ad at the top of the page that's brought out the beast in him. Or the Kevin Spacey syndrome, "Swimming With Sharks."

does anyone know where I, Robot takes place? or is it a made up place? I was thinking San Francisco because of the bridge.
