Personally, I don't know much about this new technology, but I do know that to have a true 3 dimensional representation, you have to have 2 perspectives viewed at the same time. Thus, the reason that humans, as well as other creatures can see 3 dimensionally... we have "two" eyes, viewing slightly different representations of the same image. If you take a movie (such as Star Wars) that was filmed from "one" camera angle, how can in truely look 3D? It seems to me that it would just come off as the same "2D" image we're all used to seeing, only projected in the air, versus on a screen. When they start filming with at least 2 cameras at the same time, that's when it might get interesting. ;)

That's a good point, all though with Lucas I'm sure he could digitally create that second perspective, the second camera, based on footage shot with the first, then using CGI to fill in the information needed for true 3D (To be honest I have no idea what true 3D on film would look like and probably am making no sense at present, but I'm very excited about 3D technology, except for the fact that eventually I will end up repurchasing many of my old DVD's in these new formats...).

i hate this viewing evolution. . .it adds another reason for a filmaker to overlook the story and consentrate on the visuals..first cg....now this...

I have been to Universal Studios Hollywood and have seend the T2: 3D show, and allthough it is an amazing experience I still think the 3D technology is best for those kind of "movies". Even when watched with the gogles, the image is not as sharp and clear as a normal movie picture, I do not see 3D going mainstream anytime soon.
