Here's a few things that I think will REALLY help out the website.

1. Allow other users to see how you rate your collection, otherwise, what's the point of rating them if you're the only one that's going to see them.

2. After adding a movie to "My Collection" from "Wish List", automatically delete the DVD from a users "Wish List".

3. As me and my friend have discussed, even though you rate many of your films a "10", you still prefer some of them over another. Have an option to select the 6 DVDs that will be displayed in your profile.

4. Allow users to leave comments on profiles and be able to send messages. This could really help the spreading of unknown, but equally well made, DVDs or diversify a users collection on a large scale through suggestions from other users.

5. Also allow users to rate profiles. This will encourage users to keep their profile and collection up to date and looking spiffy.

6. Have a "Reader Reviews" section for each DVD. This way people can get an idea of how the general public feels about a specific DVD or film.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If you have any more suggestions, please add them.

The problem with rating other people's profiles and collections is that people start bitching at each other for no reason. However, your other suggestions are pretty good.

I thought about that and you're right, that will happen, but some good could come from it. Overall, it will end up being a pain in the ass, though. Here's another idea. The website could have a "Collection of the Day" or something on the main page. That way more people will see that you can create profiles and more less popular DVDs or films can spread amongst the population.

Devin

P.S. This website is already the best collection website and is easily the most well designed. I just want to make the best even better. So hopefully we will see some of these improvements in the near future.

even though it might take a lot of man power, i think it would be great if they listed most theatrical release that aren't on dvd yet and have not been annouced yet, (possibly with a predicted month of release). I would be nice to add current theatrical hits to wishlists, and once the studio offically annouces that title, we could possibly recieve a message (maybe an email) letting us become aware of the annoucement.

That would be confusing and bring in the added hassle of having listings in the database for films and not actually DVD's. Then the needless conjecture of prophecising when a film would be arriving on DVD. And I wouldn't really care for more spam about something.

But what about DVD production diaries? This one website used to do them and I thought they were really cool. Granted they bombarded the reader with far too much information, but perhaps a streamlined version of the one that website used to impose. They only did like 2 or 3, one for the Abyss and the other for Terminator 2, but I thought they were super cool and really gave the reader a sense of the immense amount of work that goes into producing a great DVD. Anyways, just a suggestion.

Thanks for the great suggestions.

We will evaluate them and hopefully incorporate them into future versions of DVD Town.

Thanks,

Henning,

What about a login pop up? Then you wouldn't have to navigate back to the thread you're trying to create a comment on.

Well, we already do that. The "Reader Comments" section included with every DVD in our database is meant for readers to give their opinion about a film. They can write as long a review as they choose.

Unfortunately, the Reader Comments have too often been used to attack the reviewer personally, something we'd like to discourage.

I know there is already a "Reader Comment" thingy, but I'm talking about implementing a point system. Something similar to IGN's or IMDB's Readers' Reviews.
