The script for Casablanca was actually being rewritten on set on a daily basis. The final scene as you see it was not written until shortly before it was shot - they had no idea how to end the movie all through production.

What happened to "Get away from her you bitch!"? That was the classic line, and I'm sure some people use it in their daily lives (as per criteria for these quotes). It was on the 400 list, but not the top 100. Come on! Some really poor judgement right there. I was fairly satisfied with the rest though. I personally would like to know where the hell "play it again Sam" originated, becuase like they say: it's never actually said in the film Casablanca.

P.S. The writers of Casablanca (Julius and Epstein I believe) must have sold their souls to Satan (or at the very least somebody) to write that good!

Thanks for the link Ranjan. I missed the first 45 minutes or so. I really enjoyed it though. I had no idea where some of the quotes came from and it was quite interesting to see which movie(s) they were from. Of course you can argue until the cows come home about what was left of the list and in what order they were. I thought they did a great job.

As far as I'm concerned, the AFI could have taken all 100 quotes from "Casablanca" and still not covered all the gems.

Interestingly, I put together a list of favorite movie quotes some years ago for my film classes, and I was gratified that most of them made the AFI's list, too.

I thought that "Bond, James Bond" should have ranked higher on the list, it should have been on the top ten (if not the top five)

The line "play it again sam" is widley used and thought to be in the movie casablanca. The truth behind it is that is is just simply missed quated. The line is "play it sam".;)
