i bought the best of eddie snl last night...how i miss the old murphy. seeing "haunted mansion" and such, it's easy to forget that this is the man who single-handedly saved snl, was one of the biggest box office draws of a decade, and (in my opinion) perhaps the best stand-up comedian ever (check out his hbo special "delirious"...if you don't mind extremely un-pc humor). however, according to imdb, he's going to star along side chris rock in an action comedy...anybody know more about this? i think his career is kinda like john travolta's, he starts huge, slums a bit, has a huge come-back (murphy: nutty proffesor, travolta: pulp fiction) but then goes on to make a bunch of borderline lame movies, save a couple (murphy: shrek, i spy, travolta: get shorty). i think tarantino should revive murphys career...and mickey rooney's. enough of my murphy ramblings, any info on the new movie (i also heard he'll be in one written by the guys behind "harold and kumar") would be much appriciated.

I dont know anything about the writers of Harold and Kumar, but that wouldnt help Murphy anyway. The Rock/Murphy movie was written by the same team that wrote the super fabulous blockbuster "New York Minute" starring the wonderful Olsen twins, so that doesn't bode well either. Murphy has another movie that has writers of The Nutty Professor movies, Coming to America and formerly of SNL, but it is a "re-imagination of Romeo and Juliet" so that doesn't even work out well. Murphy stopped doing raunchy humor and things after his kids were born, so hes been doing a lot of bad movies that he would let his kids watch instead of good movies everyone else would want to watch.
Back to the point, the Rock/Murphy film is set for 2007, and the romeo and juliet is slated for 2006, other than that, there isn't anything else out on them.

Hopefully his kids will tell him "hey dad I was watching your old stuff and it's really good, but what the hell happened after the 80s...?"
