Imdb Reports:
Hollywood appears to have waited a respectable amount of time before producing a movie about the 9/11 events, Purdue University film expert William J. Palmer, observed Wednesday. "Just like a spouse mourning a death, there is a proper time to wait before one starts dating. The same is true for Hollywood. With past events, such as the Vietnam War and Watergate, there was a two-year gap before films were produced. The trend is different for 9/11," Palmer said in a statement released by the University. Currently in production is Untitled Oliver Stone/September 11 Project, reportedly dealing with a group of police officers trapped in the wreckage of the World Trade Center.

Turning the tragic events of 9/11 to a film is an inevitable fact.
But how exactly can a studio and a marketing campaign “sell” such a film without any controversy?
We all learned that controversy is actually a good thing (Publicity-wise), more recent examples of that is the phenomenal box-office success of Mel Gibson’s “The passion of the Christ” or Dan Brown’s book-to-be-film “Da Vinci code”
One might add that both the material mentioned above have to do with religion, thus creating more controversy since they both “manipulate”, if you like, “facts” about faith.
However, I believe that this project will generate even more "publicity" as it will include given facts of recent history. No “if’s” no “maybe’s”
This is not going to be “Rambo” winning the Vietnam war.
What are your thoughts on the subject? How do you see yourself receiving this film?

I'm going to have to disagree that it's been a respectable amount of time; not to cause a bitter argument or anything. I just feel it is still too soon to commercialize this tragic event into some Hollywood Blockbuster. For now, documentaries and literature will do just fine but I'd rather wait at least ten years or longer before I could stomach it as a frills-and-thrills blockbuster event. No disrespect to Oliver Stone and I feel he'd probably do an acceptable job, I just don't feel it's time to candy-coat such a deep wound in American history.

I guess I’m picturing it in the way of sensationalism to begin making 9/11 into an epic film. I can imagine working at ILM and getting the task of creating CGI jets crashing into CGI twin towers. I just don’t think that’s a task I would want to take on if I was in the effects business; plus it would just feel awkward at this time. It really doesn’t seem like it was that long ago and I feel we still need to wait before we hand it all over to the butchers of Hollywood. Sorry, that's just my take on the idea and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but this Sunday evening (September 11th) the Discovery Channel is showing a re-enactment of Flight 93 "The Fight That Fought Back", following the events that led up to the passengers devising, and employing tactics against the terrorists aboard the flight.

While I agree with Tim, especially since I'm going into the animation industry, I know personally, I wouldn't want to recreate these scenes in 3D, the Discovery channel, on the other hand, has been very respectful in putting together similar documentaries.

I think it's important to revisit the of September 11, 2001 events from time to time, to remind us of the atrocities, and that we need to stay alert, so it doesn't happen again.
