The return of Rocky.

Sylvester Stallone has written and will star in and direct Rocky Balboa, the sixth installment in the franchise that launched with the 1976 Best Picture winner. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios will bankroll the movie; Columbia will distribute it. Filming begins next month in L.A. and Philadelphia.

Whoa Josh! I hadn't realize it was you...eventhough I knew Nachtkriechen was just your nickname. I guess the Highlander-ish "Lambert" threw me off.

Ah, Chin. You're a good man, in providing us an outlet for our frustrations.

Good show old bean!

I think Stallone is aiming for an oscar;). He missed a coveted award for Rocky. He is back with vengence:)

Does no one understand the idea of bowing out gracefully anymore? How about retiring as the reigning champion? Or being remembered for greatness?

I like Stallone. I think he was great in the first Few Rocky films, but after the 4th, I thought that was enough. Rambo... it was great for it's time. Rambo 2? If you must, but 3 and beyond, it's just bordering on stupidity.

This seems to be a growing trend in Hollywood today. Look at Madonna, and her pathetic and desperate cry for attention when she Frenched Brittany Spears on national TV a few years ago. What excellent role models kids have to look up to today. ;)

As much as this bothers me, it doesn't surprise me. Stallone will need a boost for his careere after Get Carter and Spy Kids 3. I know Stallone can act; he was excellent in the early Rocky flicks and I loved his turn in Cop Land. The sad part is, despite us bashing these flicks we all know that they're going to make a lot of money. Rocky was great (although I always liked Raging Bull more, which got snubbed at the Oscars. Didn't Rocky beat Taxi Driver? Someone fell asleep at the wheel...), Rocky 2 was cool but unnecessary because it pretty much negated the moral behind the first, Rokcy 3 was goofy because of Mr. T and Hulk Hogan (sweet training montages though), Rocky 4 was actually pretty sweet (I think I watch this one more often than the rest), and Rocky 5 was a good attempt but a failed execution because the family problems and tensions between characters did not click with me. All the fights are neat, but seriously, how many times and ways can you train, leave retirement and beat the bad guy? THe only way a Rocky 6 could work is if an aged Rocky came back for a revival, get's his ass seriously whooped and turns into a reflective has-been (wait... that's Raging Bull again).
The Rambo thing is even more ridiculous because all of these movies, while action-packed and entertaining are STUPID AS HELL. These movies are good the same way Commando is good, as a laughing stock. The post-traumatic stress propaganda in the first one was particularly unsettling. Stallone would have to get ripped again to play this role. But what the hell do I know... I thought Terminator 3 was pretty cool and I crapped on that movie before it came out as well. Sequels like this made several years after the fact and after adequate or even excellent endings (Indiana Jones 4 anyone? Last Crusade ended perfectly and was awesome, why tamper with a great series?) are hardly ever a good idea. Look at Godfather III... I thought it was a great movie but the public never took the same shine to it. Stallone is just making himself look like an ass by redoing these concepts. He should take the same path as Bill Murray and Steve Martin by taking brave, serious roles as he did in Cop Land.
Well, I'm done... ;)
