...is one amazing movie.
It starts off as a gimmick but goes off from there developing a great story, awesome characters, some amazing dialogue, and just...it's great.
If it's near you you should see it. It's one of the best films I've seen in a long time.

I saw "Brick" last week. It's a gutsy move by writer-director Rian Johnson to set an old 40's film noir in a modern high-school environment. Everything from the old movies is there, with heroes, villains, and plot right out of "The Maltese Falcon," "The Big Sleep," "Farewell, My Lovely," "Murder, My Sweet," "Out of the Past," "Laura," and many more. And it's not done tongue-in-cheek, like a parody or with a wink to the audience. It's done perfectly straight, and more power to it.
If you don't recognize these old movies, you may be somewhat perplexed as to why the characters are talking and acting so strangely, but for film-noir buffs, it's fun stuff.

Went and saw it this week, beautifully shot but ultimately trips and falls over a predictable plot, with c list acting and pointlessly redundant characters. It's full of great dialogue, but it comes across empty and meaningless from most of the actors, with the exception of the always intriguing Lukas Hass and the underrated Matt O'Leary. Features some of the most realistic fight scenes I've seen on film in quite awhile and it's definitely worth seeing for the imagery and Hass scenes, I can't wait for Rian Johnson's next movie, he also edited one of my all time favorite films, "May"
