Does anyone know why the film "Fearless" is being advertized as Jet Li's FINAL martial arts picture? Is he to retire? Is he getting too old? Did he actually break a leg?
If anyone knows, please post me an answer. Thanks. ;)

Li plays an assassin in his next film, 2007's "Rogue." Apparently, he doesn't beat up anybody, he just kills them.
I've been wondering the same thing myself about this mysterious "final martial arts" thing. Maybe he wants to do some more-serious acting. Or maybe it's just hype to sell "Fearless." You know, the old "get 'em while they're hot because they won't last long" kind of thing.

Tim, I'm pretty sure I remember him saying - [on the "HERO" DVD bonus feature interview of him by Quentin Tarantino] - that he planned to do just one more martial arts film, and then move on to other themes.
It's been awhile since I watched that movie, but I don't think he said anything about retiring, just that he was going to do only one more martial arts-theme film. If a dvdtown staff member has that disc, check out the interview by Tarantion in the bonus features to confirm.
I would guess he's obviously tired of the m-arts theme, and now there are younger stars appearing in these films.
By the way, that HERO DVD has one of the finest DTS soundtracks I've ever heard on the format; so good that for the last few years BOSE Electronics has used a sample from it to showcase their "3·2·1™ GS Series DVD Home Entertainment System" [I'm sure they had to pay Disney/Buena Vista for the priviledge].
-Love Hendrix!

the title could be read both ways--the movie belongs to jet li, or jet li is without apprehension. :D
anyway, the movie can be seen on at least three levels:
story: huo yuanjia matures, self-reflects, and beats the crap out of white people while coming to an understanding with a fellow asian.
themes: introspection and respect for others
topic: the chinese people must be united to prevent exploitation by foreigners. at the same time, the chinese people can not treat the outside world with disdain. mutual engagement is the key to resolving international conflicts. this applies to the present, the 21st century.
----------
after watching this movie, i'm further convinced that art has to mean something in order to be credible. art for art's sake is hollow and empty. this is why something like "house of flying daggers", while being a high achievement in style, is not as satisfying as "fearless", which doesn't have better fights than other martial-arts movies but takes notice of its relation to the world at large.
