I have a Yamaha HTR-5760 and noticed that when playing Rush Hour 2 with the DTS-ES only encoded audio, I am getting audio skips. It works fine with any other encoded format. I have seen reports online of this happening but can’t find enough information on how to resolve it. I can only think that is could be the DVD player or the Yamaha HTR-5760. I am using a Onkyo DV-CP701 that can do DTS. I am using a fiber connection and I messed with every setting on the DVD player to see if there were any variations to the skipping and there were none. I even got another DVD and DVD player that has DTS-ES on it so I can eliminate that. So I am left with the Yamaha. So far EVERY DTS-ES encoded movie I have played worked, it's just with Rush Hour 2.
I contacted Yamaha and they told me that not every DTS chip is alike.
Anyone have this receiver and Rush Hour 2?
Steve.

Weird though being that it is ONLY the Rush Hour 2 movie and no other DTS-ES dvd.

DVD^2steve,
As long as you've cleaned the disc and still getting the same result, you're more than likely right. If it's dropping the audio, then it's likely a manufacturing error on the receiver itself.
Sean (...gurus, anyone? gurus to weigh in on this one?...)

I have tried my dvd player on a sony receiver with DTS-ES and it worked fine. I also tried a different Rush Hour 2 DVD and the same thing on my Yamaha.
Would be curious if Indian has that problem. Might be a different chip or something in the 5740 but thanks for giving it a try.
Yamaha did say that if I found that it was a problem on any other DTS-ES encoded dvd, I would need to send it to them for service. But I have not yet so I am led to believe that it has to do with the way the Rush Hour 2 dvd was encoded and it's interaction with the decoding chip on the Yamaha?

DVD^2steve,
This sounds more like a DVD reading problem associated with your player. The possibility does exist that your receiver is dropping the audio feed, but if it's actually skipping, then it's more likely to be your DVD player. Have you tried this DVD on any other player?

watched it last night and... Same crap! DD played fine but dte-es skipped and paused constantly. Unwatchable. It started out fine until the first big boom. Then my receiver kept flashing and sound disapearing off and on until several seconds into the next scene. I have watched a LOT of movies with this system including many dts-es movies and this is the 1st time that has happened to me.

Well maybe but I doubt it. Lots of movies that have much more boom than that one and I've never had this problem. Plus i didn't have it as loud as I normally do. The dolby digital played just fine too. Yea, normally I can't even listen to movies as loud as my system can go. No distortion. Just too loud.

Could be an issue of overload. Many receivers will cut out if they reach a maximum volume level. Indian, you stated that it happened after the first "big boom," so this might be a safety measure within the receiver itself.
Do your owner's manuals say anything in regard to this?
Sean (...personally, I'm ready for owner's automatics, but they still only make them in manual...)

Hey I thank all of you with your input on this problem with us Yamaha owners. Well on mine Yamaha if you go to chap 2 where they enter the club and sing karaoke, right from the beginning it will skip bad with the Michael Jackson song playing in the background. So I don't think it has to do with volume level.
Steve.
P.S. Lord of the Rings and all other DTS-ES dvd's play with no skips at all so that is where the weird of it all is at.

Sounds most likely to be an encoding problem with the disc itself then. You might take a look to see if New Line has any kind of recall on the item.
Sean (...i don't recall a recall if you recall, but recalling the recall would help with checking on a recall...)
