we won't get a laborious piece of middle earth obviousness from a man who has clearly lost the ability to keep his appetites in check.

I thought he was keeping his appetites in check? He appeared to have lost a lot of weight over the filmming of KK, so I would assume he's keeping his appetite in check.

Yes, we have no more Hobbits.
We have no more Hobbits today.
We have Big Folks and Balrogs,
Dark Elves and Dragons,
And even some Gondor Men, we do.
But, yes, we have no more Hobbits,
We have no more Hobbits today.

Wow, John, that really dates you.
Of course, I guess somebody has to date you.

Sorry you hated LOTR -)
"An MGM spokesman said that "the matter of Peter Jackson directing 'The Hobbit' films is far from closed." "

This alll sound like posturing. It's crunch time and they are all putting their cards on the table, a show of strength, to scare the other side and get the best deal possible.
Anyone have any ideas as to who would be a good -alternate- director for "The Hobbit"?

An alternate director? I'd have to say there is clearly only one choice and that would be Michael Bay.

"They" just came out with another release of the rings films a few months ago on DVD -also while the lawsuit was in progress. So why the big fuss over two new movies now?
Maybe this is just a publicity stunt?
Or end-game negotiation tactics? There should be a happy announcement by Christmas!

Two Hobbit films with and Peter Jackson AND Sam Raimi?
It looks like New Line is talking to Peter Jackson.

Sam Raimi was rumored to direct "Clash of the Titans"
but could he direct a Jackson-produced film instead?.
