Hi there...I noticed that several times during Spy Kids 2, the picture froze briefly...usually between the 2-3 minute mark. Really annoying. I went to the SP2 review on this site, and it looks like the reviewer was having the same problem. Do you know if there's any official word on this? I was playing the disc on a Sony DVP-S7700.
Thanks!

Since I have been experiencing this freeze-up problem with almost ALL of the most recent Buena Vista DVDs I've watched, I can only conclude that the studio is mastering them differently than before, and that they may be having difficulty with all players in general or only with selected machines like the Sony 7700s.
Writing or calling Buena Vista would seem the most prudent course.

By the way, Eddie, I made a crack about getting high on the Matrix Reloaded thred, why didn't you jump my case about smoking pot? That's illegal, too.

Murder, yes I would report that. Piracy though? Well, let me put it this way, I don't agree with it and God knows there's more people doing it now days then I care to count. The way I see it is when you die you don't get to take nothing with you but your soul. So should I really worry about something that isn't going to amount to a hill of beans in the end? Nevertheless, I think piracy is wrong but I wouldn't dare compare it to the same level as murder. To me, it's no more harmless Jay-walking...unless you're the guy who started Napster!

So, if you saw a colleague commit a murder, you wouldn't report him because you wouldn't want to be a snitch? Bollocks, I say. A crime is a crime is a crime.
I sent an e-mail to DVD Town's staff members a few weeks ago. In the e-mail, I spoke against piracy and even detailed how, while in college, I informed the police of piracy being committed by people I knew. They were arrested. I feel good about having done my civic duty.

Yes, I know. I'm only joking, however I do work with a guy that gets these Asian pirated DVDs. I give him crap about it all the time, but hey, what can you do? I could always turn him in but I don't want to look like the office nark, if you know what I mean.

That sounds very strange? I usually have freezing problems whenever I watch Pirated DVDs that I get from a guy I work with. The other day he gave me The Recruit and it wouldn't play at all.

Well, Eddie, you'll be happy to know that everything I own I purchased at my local retail chains. Every movie, every music CD, every piece of software, and even food, I bought with my hard earned money. There is absolutely nothing in my home that has been stolen or pirated. Now with that out of the way, let me say thanks for shattering my nerves today! When I get home tonight I'm going to roll myself a big fat hooter and forgetaboutit!

Um...Tim? Don't you know that we frown upon the use of illegally obtained software and hardware? Especially when it concerns our REVIEWERS?!?!?

Tim, I'm not trying to jump on your case. As you can tell from our numerous e-mails and IM chats, I'm a jokester just like you. However, we happen to be discussing certain DVD-related issues in these forums, and I think that joking about piracy is a bit more dangerous than joking about the use of illegal chemical substances given DVD Town's stature as a leading supplier of DVD-related news.
As for the 'seriousness' of piracy...believe it or not, media conglomerates are buckling because of piracy. We're looking at the possibility of everything being made 'public domain' by default simply because almost everything is available via illegal channels. If art can be disseminated without any compensation to the artists, then who would bother making music, films, books, etc. for a living? An artist would have to work in another profession in order to support his dream of contributing to the cultural landscape of the world--and his/her attentions would be split between doing a good job at work and doing a good job creating music, movies, literature, paintings, sculptures, etc. Needless to say, the quality of most art would suffer given those circumstances.
I don't buy the 'entertainment-costs-too-much-for-a-poor-kid' argument. Let me put it this way--if you're poor and starving, is it okay to steal food? No. Likewise, if you're poor and bored, is it okay to steal entertainment? No. If you're not allowed to steal necessities (like food, clothing, and shelter), why is it okay to steal non-essentials such as movies and music???
Finally, a crime is a crime is a crime. Laws exist that forbid jaywalking so that people won't be hit by automobiles and so that drivers won't swerve and hit other cars with theirs. If you jaywalk, you deserve to be hit with a nasty fine and possibly even a jail sentence. My world view does tend to be a bit draconian, but people never learn unless you wake them up with a dash of cold water on their faces.
