For some reason this DVD set does not work in my Sony DVD player. About half way through the film I loose both picture and sound completely. Picture scrambles into tiny boxes. Buena Vista was kind enough to send me a replacement set but the same results occur. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If so please email me at mrbta2@msn.com[:(]

I've read that this title has given people problems due to faulty compression techniques (leading to the artifacting/blocking/major pixelation that you've experienced). Just curious, is your Sony DVD player fairly new, or does it have a few years on it?

For the record, Criterion's THE ROCK plays perfectly in my Sony 7700.

I don't know about THE ROCK because I don't own a copy of it. I did have some issues with a new Disney release; TREASURE PLANET. The DVD was brand new, and fresh out of the box. However, during various chapter changes it kept doing that brief one second pausing thing?!?!?! I realize this happens at least once on a dual layer DVD, but this was different because it just kept happening every other chapter change. It was rather annoying! I suppose it's the least I can expect from the evil empire of Disney!!!

After reading your post, I decided to watch The Rock again (Criterion) today. It played fine on my Pioneer DV-525 player. My DVD player's at least 2.5 years old. Must be one of those player-specific problems.
