If your LotR:TTT disc is goes bad, it will always take place at the same spot: in chapter 51, where Gandalf says "The battle for Helm's Deep is over, the battle for Middle-earth has begun." The disc will stop skipping around chapter 52, although sometimes it jumps back about an hour in the disc. :.(

* The most common players prone to this problem are Sony players and the PlayStation 2, but Sony isn't the only victim. People are reporting the problem on players from Toshiba, Panasonic and Apex.

Most folks have been able to exchange their discs, although some had to go back as many as three times before finding a working disc. With enough trial and error they find a working one. My suggestion is if you take back the disc to get a new one, if the store has working DVD players on the floor, open it up right there and try it out.

Who cares you have to be a fucking moron to own the Two Towers now when you know that there is a superior version coming out in less then 3 months. If I know a superior version is coming I wait. I wasn't the biggest fan of the movie but even if you love it no movie is good enough that you can't wait 3 months for a vastly superior version.

Jimmy, I'd like to ask you to show some courtesy in these forums. People can buy whatever DVDs they like. Besides, what's wrong with having both the two-disc and four-disc sets for the "LOTR" movies? One is the theatrical cut, and one is the extended cut. The sets offer different extras. There's something to be said for having it all in your hands.

First of all there are no scenes in the theatrical cut that are not in the extended edition. Also the extras may be different but the promotional extras of the two disc version contain no information that the DVD made extras of the extended edition don't have. The preview for Return of the King is cool but definultly not worth spending 20 dollars on the disc. Not to mention it will be worthless after Return of the King comes out. So I really see no reason anyone would buy the theatrical version. It really is a rental disc the extended edition is far to extensive for renting. The two disc version is perfect for renting for a couple days but buying it is a big waste of money.

Why would it be a waste of money? It is the theatrical version that made the rounds on the awards circuit. Also, I'm surprised that someone as fussy as you are about DVDs would be so dismissive of people's desire to have "complete" collections.

Jimmy,

Some people prefer to own the original theatrical experience. I often prefer the movie I saw in the theaters to the directors cut that came later. Your flagrant attack on a person who appreciates the original version, and wants to watch a film they enjoyed before in the theater in the months between its release, and the release of the EE. Do you have the EE? Have you had the urge to watch the film? Maybe our friend Delfritee wished to see the movie. But your harsh words only belie your true immaturity.

Delfritee,

Sorry to hear about your problem! Do you have a link to information about this player-specific problem? I want to make sure the readers of this site have full access to the information you have. I haven't picked up TTT on DVD, since I made the consious decision to wait for the extended editions on both Fellowship and now TTT, and am holding fast to that decision, no matter how much it aches me to see this film again! Thanks!

Whoa! Relax people! They're just movies! However even with the "superior version" Jimmy, there are still problems. I bought the extended Widescreen version of LOTR TTT, and I'm guessing there are problems with both the Dolby Digital EX 5.1, and DTS ES 6.1 encoding. My problem is the strangest one I've heard of, LOTR TTT will actually "TURN OFF" my receiver! I've played around with the volume level, using the 5.1, and the 6.1 encoding, and it still does it. Wierd. My Onkyo receiver however is a few years old, but it does have DTS decoding. I had heard of problems with LOTR FOTR having similar problems with the audio encoding when it came out on DVD. Anyone else have problems like this?

I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem as me with their Two Towers dvd's...I have the collectors box set...the one with the extra Gollum DVD...and it seems that everytime I play it on my LG V782W DVD/VCR the Village Roadshow logo (and only at this point...once it goes into the menu it's fine) jumps, the sound cuts in and out and everything becomes pixelated and pulled apart...it only seems to do this on the Gollum DVD and the Appendicies DVD's...the actual film discs are fine...so...the things I've done to work out if it was the discs or my player are these: I've played them on a different player and they worked fine...very odd...also I've taken the first disc set back thinking it was just that but it's done it for 2 box sets now....and have played with the region settings...so...there you go...just curious if anyone else has seen or fixed this :)

You're using a combo DVD/VHS-tape player, and those machines are not the most reliable of DVD players. Try playing your discs in a computer or in a stand-alone DVD player to see if the same problems persist. If they don't, then it's just a matter of you needing another DVD player to watch the DVDs. If they do, then exchange your set for another one.
