I do not know what happened to a couple of my discs, but they seem to be covered from the very edge of the disc to the very inner section where the center circle is with something. I say something because I have no idea how to describe it without actually showing what it looks like. I can say this. I have tried to clean them to no avail. Whatever is on the disc is very stubborn and highly resistant to my efforts to make the surface free and clear. I would welcome some suggestions from any who may have had a situation similar to mine.

Vampire,

A couple of questions. First, are you referring to commerically available DVDs, HD-DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, or discs you burned yourself or someone burned for you? Second, how old are the discs? Third, if you bought the discs commercially, are they from the same manufacturer? Fourth, have you been storing them near one another and/or near anything that may have contaminated them?

There have been many (though still rare) stories of CD rot in the past twenty-odd years, and the occasional story of DVD rot, where moisture has corroded the metal layers under the plastic coating. Is the damage you refer to on top of or under the clear plastic coating? And what color is the damage, and how is it spread out on the disc?

John
