Mark Wahlberg has confirmed reports he has been approached to star in a sequel and a prequel to the violent crime thriller and Oscar contender The Departed. The film's writer William Monahan has already started work on the sequel, which focuses on the rogue police officer played by Wahlberg. The 35-year-old, who is up for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the 2006 thriller, tells EmpireOnline, "They told me they wanted to try to do it and I said, 'Well, I enjoyed playing the character.' They're talking about bringing in Robert De Niro to play a senator or a congressman. You know, the corruption obviously going deeper and higher up the ranks - reaching up the political chain. So it'll be fun. And if it's a success, they're gonna do a prequel and bring everyone back…make it a trilogy."
The film could, according to Wahlberg, start shooting "the beginning of next year or end of this year,

How about a sequel with Nicholson, Damon, and DiCaprio? No, huh?
Actually, I just wanted to see how the new edit function worked.

Aww, damnit, now you've gone and ruined the whole thing.
Just kidding, I've seen it already.
Not too keen on the whole sequel concept, but with the film having been based on another, somewhat new film anyhow, it isn't exactly sacred ground.

I would just like to see how it would look alike . We have seen many good follow-ups to good films and much more disastrous second parts.
We will see!

I saw the film and I gotta tell you that I thought Jack Nicholson was pretty weak. He didn't seem like the leader of anything, in fact he seemed too out of it to be the BIG Boss. Everybody else I thought did a great job but Jack just seemed like he was in the wrong role. I like him in most movies, even as the joker in Batman but in this one not so much. Just my opinion.
