I have a cyberhome 402 DVD player. Couple of days back I used a lens cleaner on it and now i have some problems with the picture. A part of the screen is brighter than the rest.
It is more visible in dark sequences in the movies.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the problem

Thanks

I wonder if the lens cleaner didn't leave a film on part of the lens. If you didn't notice the problem previous to the lens cleaning and you did afterwards, then it's probable the culprit is the lens cleaner itself. Either that, or the cleaner cleaned off something on one side of the lens and not the other.

Why did you feel the necessity to use a lens cleaner at all? What problem(s) did the player exhibit before the cleaning? Did you apply the lens cleaner directly to the laser lens yourself, or did you use a cleaning disc with the lens cleaner applied to it?

If you can reach the lens directly yourself, I suggest using plain, old isopropyl alcohol to clean it again; it won't leave a film.

it could have been one of those discs with a brush on it to clean the laser. thats what i use. and my only reccomendation for you is to use it again and see if the problem is fixed.

My guesses:
Did you look at the picture carefully before cleaning? Could it have been like that before? Is there dust on one side? Is there a light source hitting one side, or at a different angle.
I don't know a lot about these things, but it seems that the player would not be built to pick-up half of the picture on one side of the lens, and half on the other. That's slipping into analog territory.

if its the only player you have, my only suggestion is to go buy another one. you can find one for about $39 at places like wal-mart.

I'd say a plunge into the depths is in order. Best of luck. And be careful.

The lens is not accessible from the outside. Need to open the top lid.

The player is about 2 years old and has been used well.

The reason why i decided to clean it was that the picture had kinda gotten bad. It was a bit hazy. I can see the improvement on the side that is brighter:D.

The lens on most DVD players is not usually accessible through the front of the player. If it is, yes, you can use a long cotton swab to wipe it clean with isopropyl alcohol.

If the lens is not accessible through the front, and you are adventurous, you might take the case apart and reach the lens from within. I don't think you have a lot to lose, since your picture is currently messed up anyway.

The case should easily unscrew from the bottom and/or sides. Once the outside covering is removed, there may be an additional protective covering enclosing the lens mechanism. If so, carefully note how you remove it so that you can get it back together again.

I might add, if your player if older than three or four years and you use it a lot, you may just have a laser light going out.

Why did you feel the need to clean the lens anyways? Seems like asking for trouble to me.

Thanks for the response. I used the cleaning disc with brushes from maxell. The picture was not like this before. I watch DVDs regularly and I would have noticed if that had been the case.

I tried Cleaning using the disc again and it does not do anything.

Is it a good idea to reach and clean the lens using alcohol? I have not tried that.

Thanks

I assume there is no problem when playing tapes or cable...
