Here's a thought. In reference to the "memory caching" idea, with all of the gaming systems out there that have onboard hard drives, isn't it plausible to incorporate a low profile hard drive into a DVD/HD DVD player for caching? Even a 2 GB hard drive should do the trick. Hard drives also tend to have about a 3 year warranty/life, which, incidentally, is generally the life of a DVD player.

Who knows. As John mentions, we'll have to wait and see what the HD DVD players are capable of.
