"The good: Deepest blacks of any non-CRT we've tested yet resolves every detail of 1080i and 1080p resolution sources image stays relatively true from off-angle for an LCD TV excellent connectivity with one DVI and three HDMI inputs classy styling.

The bad: Expensive irregular bands across the screen visible in some scenes inaccurate color temperature lacks picture-in-picture view.

The bottom line: Problems with screen uniformity spoil the otherwise impressive Sharp LC - 52D92U's chances to be counted among the elite flat-panel HDTVs."

Looks like they still have the banding issue unfortunately which sucks because I was looking forward to this tv A LOT.

Yep, I too have been reading the reviews for the latest new Sharp Aquos 1080p TVs, and obviously share your disappointment! Last year, I posted here my plan to upgrade by this Christmas 07 to a size 46" or larger 1080p screen, and would have preferred the excellent Sharp Aquos LCD model, in a large size.

So after this strange "banding" issue that won't go away (two different production lines from Sharp have resulted in sets with the problem), I now plan to grab a 50" Plasma (-perhaps- one of the forthcoming Panasonic 1080p models arriving this summer, depending on the price).

Also, there are now several excellent 50" 720p models selling for around $2000 to $2500 (Panasonic, Samsung, Hitachi, LG), and I might go that route. For sure, I definitely will increase my screen size to at least 50 inches, and Plasmas are nice because they offer great picture quality and excellent black levels (which for LCD are never as black as Plasma).

I noticed Hitachi has an interesting 50" Plasma now being released ($2500 retail), featuring 1080i NATIVE resolution, (not progressive, but interlaced - and not 720p, but "1080i"), with a full 1080 vertical lines, along with a pixel count increase to 1.3 million (but not the 2 million pixels of the more expensive, forthcoming Panasonic 1080p models).

The new Hitachi "1080i" models (now with 3 HDMI inputs) will accept all the main resolution signals: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and also 1080p, but will then scale to the set's 1080i native resolution.

So I'm figuring that this is the first major display to have an interlaced "1080i native resolution" - other than previously released CRT (tube) HDTV sets that also had 1080i native resolution (like Sony CRT models) - rather than the more common "720p" progressive resolution.

I've come to appreciate the image quality on Plasmas, the smoother picture (compared to the occasionally blurring effects of LCD), and the 50" inch models are a much better buy (bargain) compared to the same in large-screen LCD sizes.

Note: I'm a "flat panel" fan, so DLP (or other LCD/CRT Projection TVs) are not of interest to me.
