Hello all,
I have a Pioneer DV-6060D (Exterenal player for TV). The player recently began making a noise when loading a DVD in the tray, i.e. when the DVD spins it is loud, almost liek it's rubbing against something. I beleive it happens all the time , but once in a while one or two DVD's will not makew the noise (I believe this to be one -offs).
Is this evident of a mechanical breakdown ?
thanks

I hope not. Mine makes that sort of a whirring noise while it's in menus but goes away when the disc is playing. I think it's a sort of issue that pops up when the disc is spinning but the laser isn't moving. But I could be wrong... and you could have a dying player on your hands :)

yes, but that is bad because you're not letting your dvd player vent heat!!!
marksz, you should take your dvd player back to the retailer if possible.

thanks but my player just began doing this about 6 mos ago. For a $500 DVD player a wet towel just won;t cut it :)

My dvd player has always done this, I figure it is becuase since its a huge htib 5 disc player. I got used to it after a while, but friends just get distracted. So I wrapped the whole player in an old beach towell to dampen the noise. Problem solved, you can only hear a noise from the player if the tray is open to change discs.

thanks, actually mine continues the noise, to the point I cannot watch a movie, as I find it to disruptive.

It is also venting the heat just fine, it has a fairly large fan on the back and it is pushing out a nice stream of cool air right now. The towell only covers about half of the entire unit, enough to deaden any noise from up front. The noise that comes from the back is blocked off mostly by my vcr, a/v switch and the center speaker.

" Chrtrptnt: it has a fairly large fan on the back and it is pushing out a nice stream of cool air right now "
Actually, it should be pushing warm air out. As it removes heat.
About the spinning noise, maybe your tray dislocates the disc when closing. Nothing that can't be fixed.
I, my self have a very strange problem. Some DVD's are too dark. i.e. "Vera Drake" looked quite dark...when tried to increase the TV's brightness, i had to max it just to look normal. And the colors fainted. Maybe is My RP tv, but again, other DVD's look just Fine. And im not talking about movies with dark color tones only, "a guy thing", "alexander" are some of the titles i remember having this problem. The DVD Player is conencted to the TV via SCART (RGB)

As for my fan, it is on in a/v input right now, so it is running cool and putting out cool air. It can put out some hot air when its playing a disc though.
As for your color problem, a friend of mine had a very similar problem. I will talk to him about it tomorrow and see if I can help you out.

thanks all, I'll have to bring mine in for the noise; for a while it alomost seemed to occur on some and not all DVD's; I have to do a random test , but I think it's my imagination perhaps.
Hey Chrtrptnt ; perhaps it's blowing out cool air because there's a nice cool pool inside there now that it has a beach towel ;)
