I have a couple of DVD's that when I add them to my collection, they do not appear in my collection. They are The Cheetah Girls and Childs Play 3. Also I am trying to add these movies Cult, Unrest, A Brush With Death, State's Evidence, Decoys The Second Seduction Camp Slaughter, and Bustin' Bonaparte, but every time it goes to the "releases found" page, the page is empty. Any clues?

I would imagine the Collection Manager is just rejecting those titles, I couldn't get my copy of "Teenage-Prostitute Summer Camp III: The Whoring" to take.

Just kidding, I have friends that like bad movies, too.

i suggest either keeping a list of your dvds in a word document or using other websites that are designed specifically for cataloguing dvd collections.

When logged on, be sure to use the "Request Release" feature. You can find it when you are looking at your collection.

And Eddie, our goal is to become the best site for cataloging titles before this year is out. So be sure to post suggestions and criticism here in the forums so we can achieve our goal.

Thanks for your support.

henning,

you have your goals, and other people have other goals. as for me, i keep track of my dvds by listing them in a word document instead of relying on someone else to do it for me. even when i worked for you, i NEVER used the "my collection" feature.

as so many people here have noticed, it takes forever to get a title added to the database. self-initiative is best.

I keep track of my collection of about 1,000 DVDs/HD-DVDs in the same way I keep track of my collection of over 1,000 CDs: I alphabetize them on the shelves. :)

However, people like to share their interests with other people, and that's where these lists come in handy (once we enable people to make them public, which is supposed to be on May 1). That and the fact that some people just like to make lists, esp. die-hard collectors of things or people with hobbies. (I knew a teacher friend who catalogued every issue of National Geographic, just for fun, as a lifelong hobby.) Everybody has his/her own reason for keeping lists. The DVDTOWN list may just serve some inward need, a personal satisfaction of some kind. Or maybe people just want to show off. Who knows.

In any case, I've never had a problem adding a title to the list, providing the title was already in the database (but I understand there are a few exceptions that Henning is working on now). If the title isn't in the database, it can take a while for a staff member to manually add it, but it usually gets done.

john,

that may be the case, but isn't is much easier to tell people, "i have 6,000 dvds" than it is to add 6,000 dvds to a "my collection" list? :-)

Nah, you want to let people know what a keen and discerning viewer you are by the movies you own. It's kinda like keeping that Ferrari in the driveway. :)
