Sorry if there's another thread on this, but I would love to see African Queen and Wuthering Heights ) on DVD. What other great movies are still MIA and what gives?

By coincidence, Bruce, I read today that "The African Queen" is slated for release in 2008 from Paramount. Also by coincidence, I received today a Korean region-free DVD of the movie, which I'll report on in a few days.

Thanks, John. They sure are dragging their feet on this, so I hope it's a great effort when we finally see it.

If Warner is releasing it, I think we'll all be very happy. The do very good work with their older titles.

I asked Warner about it today. They told me IMDb was in error. It is Paramount that will release "The African Queen" next year. But at least it will get a decent release.

john,
didn't you say that your vhs was from cbs/fox? well, cbs was at one time a part of viacom, so it now has a home-video distribution deal with paramount instead of with fox. it makes sense that paramount will distribute the dvd if cbs has the rights.

by the way, while john was lucky to get a non-region-locked disc, this discussion reminds me of yet another reason to stay away from hd-dvd--the players are region-locked with regards to sd-dvds. there are several titles that aren't available in the u.s. or canada but are available elsewhere. with a region-free sd-dvd player like the ones from oppodigital.com, you can basically watch anything on disc. not so with a toshiba hd-dvd player.
bruce, which version (i.e. what year) of "wuthering heights" are you trying to find?

Since when are the Toshiba HD DVD players region locked?? They've been region free since the beginning, hence being able to buy HD DVD movies online from Europe that are only available on bluray in North America. Now you're referreing to standard DVD's...aren't bluray players region locked also? Have they even enabled their ethernet adaptors yet? :p

falcon,
the hd-dvd players are region-locked when it comes to sd-dvds. half of my collection would be unplayable on an hd-dvd player.
i'm talking about hd-dvd now, not blu-ray.

p.s. bloody learn how to read before responding to my posts.

Don't you have an HD DVD player? Why don't you try them out?
Eddie all I'm saying is if you're gonna make a gripe about HD DVD don't make it sound like it's an HD DVD only issue :) No worries )
